What is your experience and knowledge of Brawl? - I’ve been around Brawl for seven years now, since the middle of 2013. I’ve seen it at its highs and lows, and so I definitely consider myself a veteran. Throughout the years, I have spent the majority of my time playing WarZ, the gamemode I fell in love with many years ago and still feel a connection to today.

What is your experience with moderating servers, if any? - I was an Administrator on DeadCentral two separate times in the last couple of years. Most of my time was spent helping facilitate and build up the then-popular practice server with the owners. Specifically, I helped oversee the staff team, moderate the chat, catch hackers, and run events. I was not involved with its most recent copy server of WarZ in 2019.

Why do you want to become a moderator on Brawl? - For most of 2019 and all of 2020 up until about a month ago, I stopped playing games in general. I was caught up with transitioning into life as a college student. I did not see my life slowing down for a long, long time, at least not until the summer. However, due to the virus, I returned back home much earlier than expected to finish my semester online. To say I have had extra free time on my hands would be an understatement. So, like many others, I was bored and checked on an old friend. I was pleased to find new life infused into Brawl and WarZ. It's tough to explain, but it literally made me feel young again as if I was back in 2013-14. Since first getting on that day, I believe I have become an extremely active member in-game, in the community discord, and on the forums as well. I have taken an interest in getting involved in the discussions of several ideas within the WarZ community that could change it for the better. I’ve tried to hear others’ opinions and share my thoughts on what would truly make the gamemode the best it could possibly be for its players and for its longterm sustainability. I would like to have a stronger voice in these conversations and be able to make sure ideas are heard. I want to do my part in helping WarZ thrive and capitalize on an amazing opportunity with so many players returning. In addition, with the new map on the horizon, I think there is so much potential growth for this server. Now don’t get me wrong, even though WarZ is where my true passion and most of my knowledge lies, I am not opposed at all to dedicating myself towards other gamemodes on Brawl as well. I understand that WarZ is not the only server with great potential. Moreover, I want to help Brawl as a whole, not just the gamemode I grew up playing. So, in the end, I feel that the timing has aligned in my life where I am available and Brawl has the potential to be great.

Have you ever used a hacked client before? - Yes, I used x-ray in my early years and experimented with a couple of hack clients to familiarize myself with the functionality. I have not downloaded any form of cheat in a very long time and do not plan on it. I pride myself on being a completely legitimate player in a community littered with hackers.

Have you ever been punished (banned, kicked, muted, etc) legitimately on a public Minecraft server? If so, why? - My account was permanently banned on Brawl back in October of 2019 because I made the incorrect decision to give my account to a “friend” to play on since I was no longer interested in the game. It was banned for a connection to other accounts he was using at the time. Despite this mistake of mine, my account is fully secured in my possession.

Also, I did receive a mute/warning towards the end of March for saying something unnecessary to another player. I told them to “brush your teeth” as part of an ongoing joke amongst a handful of players. It is not something I would declare as very serious, but I understand that there was no need to say it in the first place. I typically think of myself as not a toxic person and someone who tries to not let emotions get the best of me.

What do you consider your greatest strength? - I consider my greatest strength to be the ability to commit myself to something I feel passionate about. In life, I have been raised to believe that doing anything you care about only half-way is not worth your time in the first place. Rather, I have been taught to go after things at 120% full speed or else you are selling yourself short. Whether this applied to sports, school, or now me chasing a dream for my career, I believe I have embodied this value and possess the dedication to focus on something that matters to me. Nobody gets anywhere in life by sitting around. Although these principles may seem overarching, I feel that this mindset can be an asset when it comes to holding a moderator position on Brawl.

What do you consider your greatest weakness? - I honestly believe I have two weaknesses. One would be that I’ve only been active for about a month since returning, although I hope I have shown that I am here to stay through what I have done in that time. The other is that sometimes I focus so much on the details that I forget what matters. I am totally a “detail-oriented” person, someone who color coordinates and overly organizes. However, sometimes over-analyzing the details can cause you to forget to look at the bigger picture. In addition, sometimes I get so involved with the details of things that it actually becomes a waste of time and is not necessary. This is something I realized for a while and have been working on.

Anything else you would like to state? - For those of you reading this application, I thank you. I want you to know that I appreciate your time and that I care about what you have to say. Brawl does matter to me. It is one of the major things I think about when it comes to my childhood. People who never played Brawl would never understand how I and others feel about this server. It seriously is the coolest feeling to see it thriving again, thus allowing players to relive some of their glory days as a kid. I want to help this continue on for as long as possible. I want to be a part of something bigger.

Hey SoCool, thanks for your questions.

As for if I am planning on leaving after the pandemic, the short answer is, of course, a hard no. Since being home, the main thing I have had to focus on is finishing my online classes, which I have been doing now for just over a month. Over this period, I have found myself to be what I believe is very active on all Brawl platforms, while still balancing the end of my semester. In addition, my semester officially ends this Wednesday, April 22nd (earlier than most universities for some reason). This means I won't have school to worry about, nor will I have much of a summer job due to quarantine. Therefore, I feel it is realistic to think that my free time will only increase since essentially I have an extended summer. To answer your question more simply, I plan to be very active throughout this summer, and as much as I can even when school resumes in the Fall. I understand that this is something you have to take my word for and it is not something I can prove, so if there are any further questions I can answer for you regarding this, please let me know.

As for what I am doing for Brawl, I think I am contributing in a couple of ways, the main one being my involvement in discussions both on the forums and in the community discord regarding both minor and significant changes to WarZ. I have tried to share my input on almost every idea/change brought up. To give some examples, I shared my thoughts about in-game tweaks such as the new team cap, the removal of friendly-fire, the cross-teaming protocol, and the debate on the /alts command. In addition, I have enjoyed formulating some of the new map ideas such as dungeons and a black market, two things I believe would be very popular and could possibly take the gamemode to another level. These discussions are important to me because as a long-time player, I have insight on what has made the game enjoyable in the past and what might be able to help WarZ reach its untapped potential. Also, I find myself to be a positive influence in what some consider to be a toxic community. I try to be mature and respectful in the game chat and in discord, as well as helping out newer players when I can.

For the Brawl and WarZ community, I believe I could firstly provide a level of professionalism and maturity that it currently lacks. Being a role model for other players is something I think I am more than capable of doing. In addition, I want to help establish more communication between staff and players, specifically helping to communicate with the WarZ community and making sure their voices are heard on changes and new ideas. Communication is probably one of the major things I want to improve as it fosters a relationship between the staff and the players of the gamemode. This relationship is important because the players can provide helpful feedback, while the staff can share the progress of changes/updates with the community. Essentially, I want to see Brawl grow as both a server and a community, so anything I can do to help achieve that I'll do.

As for the staff team, I think I am someone who would be very passionate about holding a junior moderator role on Brawl, which means taking it seriously would be important to me. As a veteran of the WarZ gamemode, I can help provide my own insight, as well as the insight of the other players, for what should be changed to truly improve gameplay. In the last month, I have been very pleased with the changes that have been brought to WarZ. I want to help the staff members continue to implement great things to the server and be there to work on future projects. Lastly, I believe I am a strong team player and someone who cares about contributing to the success of the team. I enjoy working with others and collaborating on various things. So, it would be a pleasure to join the Brawl staff team and add another helping hand to the group.
