    Brawl Junior Moderator Application

    Read over this thread: http://www.brawl.com/threads/14752/
If you do not meet the requirements (active, helpful, must have Discord, etc) do not apply yet; it will be an auto deny.

What is your in-game name? - Slingg
Is your Minecraft account secured and migrated? - Yes.
How old are you? - 18
What time zone are you in? - EST

Are you multilingual? Can you speak multiple languages? - I used to be able to speak Spanish quite well. However, due to not needing to speak it on a daily basis, it has slipped back into my mind. Now I can understand it much better than I can speak it.

What is your experience and knowledge of Brawl? - I first joined MCPVP back in mid to late 2014. I quickly fell in love with Hardcore Games after YouTube recommended a BadBoyHalo kit review on it. I spent the weeks after that playing HG a lot. After realizing that I was quite bad at PVP and souping in general, I came on HG sparsely from then on. Fast forward to mid 2015, after MCPVP had died and Brawl had taken over most of their assets, I came on and realized HG had 0 players online. To me, it was quite unusual that a once very much alive gamemode had no players online. Out of curiosity I hovered over the other game modes Brawl had, and found that CTF had way more players on despite HG being dead. From then on I tried my hardest to get better at CTF, eventually stopping coming on everyday due to my lack of PVP skill and complexities of the minigame. Fast forward again to 2018 and I really began putting effort into the game. I was eventually asked to join a team randomly during a game of casual. Since then I have been a part of countless CTF teams, have made good suggestions to improve aspects of the game, and have tried my hardest as a normal player to help newer players understand CTF and all of its complexities. I also co-led a (now deleted) discord server dedicated to helping players understand the Elf class, and hopefully start maining it. This server was named Rivendell. At the time of the servers inception, Elf Offense wasn’t seen as that much of a viable strategy as it is now. There were probably only around 4-5 hardcore Elf mains present during this time. One of the key things stopping other players from maining the class was how vulnerable it was to Ninjas. As a server, Rivendell pushed to have Elf buffed in a way to encourage other Offense mains to add it to their arsenal. We eventually succeeded in having the Elf class sword buffed to Sharpness 2, and old wind added back. I feel that those two additions played a key role in getting more players to use Elf in general.

What is your experience with moderating servers, if any? - I do have experience, however the server I was Moderator on was much smaller than Brawl. My first time being a staff member was on a now inactive server named NeonCraft, a heavily modified Towny server. My role was Helper, I was basically a chat moderator. My job entailed making sure players were not using inappropriate language in game (the server had strict rules on that), disrespecting one another, spamming, or posting inappropriate links in chat. As said above, NeonCraft was much smaller than Brawl. At peak hours we would probably get 15 players online, the small player counts made my job as Helper pretty easy.

Why do you want to become a moderator on Brawl? - I have noticed inconsistencies in the game when it comes to staff members (and normal players) helping others out when it comes to the simple things. Most of the time when a new player quick drops, it is because he/she doesn't know what to do when encountering another class with much different abilities than the normal four classes. For example, blocking when an assassin uses their assassinate, wall climbing when encountering ninjas after stealing the flag, or even the simple things like not knowing steak heals you in battle. If I were given the privilege of becoming a staff member on brawl, I would try my hardest to help new players out when it comes to understanding CTF.

Have you ever used a hacked client before? - Yes I have. I remember using one on random Kit PVP servers when I was in my tweens. I would use blatant hacks such as kill aura, click aim, and reach to gain an unfair advantage over other players. I used these hacked clients because I was still very new to Minecraft PVP as a whole, and wanted to gain an edge over other, much more skilled players than myself. Most might consider this a con to my application, however I believe it should be considered a pro. When you use those hacked clients, you gain a better understanding of what is “on the market”, in turn, this allows you to know what to look for when assessing if a player is hacking or not.

Have you ever been punished (banned, kicked, muted, etc) legitimately on a public Minecraft server? If so, why? - As said above, I used to use hacks on Kit PVP servers years ago. Many times, that hacking led to a ban from the server. In terms of Brawl, yes I have been punished here before. I currently have 7 warnings, 1 mute, and 1 kick to my name. Most of these punishments happened fairly close together. I feel that the main cause of these punishments was something very emotionally testing that was happening in my life at the time. During this period, I was a very angry person. I guess to cope with all the stress and trauma that I was experiencing at the time, I would take my anger out on people online whom I would likely never meet. These punishments certainly aren't something I am proud of at all. And if Brawl sold record wipers on the shop, I would be the first in line to buy one, because I feel they do not represent who I am as a person at all. With that being said, I feel I have made a full 180 in terms of how I treat people in games since that period. As it is now, I haven't been punished in over 2 years.

~If more clarification is needed as to what I was going through during the time stated above, feel free to message me in discord.

What do you consider your greatest strength? - I would consider my extrovertedness and willingness to help others my greatest strength by far. If a new player joins the game and has a question, I am usually the first to answer it. If I see a new player quick drop by the hands of a much more experienced one, I’m the first to give them tips on how to play the game properly. Going back to me being an extroverted person by nature, I feel that this skill is overlooked when it comes to considering someone for staff. I mean, how can you expect players to trust staff if all they see is silent robots only coming on to ban players and enforce rules? I feel that what makes a good staff member is one who interacts with the community not only when players need help, but talks to people in game about the small things. If I was given the opportunity to become staff, I would hope to be seen as a friend among the community, not someone who is only online to catch rule breakers.

What do you consider your greatest weakness? - I’ll be honest here, I can have a bad mouth every now and then in game. It is definitely something I have been working on for the past few months. I now realize that when I use inappropriate words in game, it can lead to younger players possibly not being able to play brawl at all, it can lead to players having a bad taste in their mouth about brawls community as a whole, and when you get to the bottom of it, it makes me seem a whole lot less mature than I actually am.

Which Brawl server(s) are you most active on? - CTF

How many Brawl staff applications have you made in the past? - 0
What is the date of the last application you submitted? - N/A
Do you have Discord? - Yes, slingg#3361

Anything else you would like to state? - Here are some previous suggestions and constructive criticism I’ve made on the forums.

Would love to see slingg as a JMOD! He's really active on discord, in ppms and on casual and having him help set maps and ban the hackers would be great. He seems to be really passionate about the game too and will help push it in a positive direction. Not to mention he's also a really chill dude and very helpful. Give this man JMOD!

(not to mention personally responsible for my 150% ninja skill level increase -- thanks for the tips, slingg!)

Yes. Slingg good mod choice. Not too laid back, but would also allow slight bends of the rules. Still likes playing the game. Good choice. Coraze seal of approval given :grinning:

Hello Slingg, really glad to see you apply. First thing I want to mention is that I'd like to see you join the staff team, I think you'd be a great addition.

Initially I had concerns about your behavior with being toxic and saying inappropriate things you shouldn't have, however, I do believe you've been trying to change for the better. I was in the same boat just a few months before applying, and I was able to change and I think you are too and have already made good progress so that's great. This is evident at least in game with your relevant punishments being from over a year go. +0.5

You've also been helpful in giving suggestions, feedback, and ideas in the CTF Discord and on the forums which is very good to see. I have no doubt that you'll keep this up and be of more help if you're accepted. +1

Also, you are very active both ingame and on Discord. +1
I don't believe this answer is the best. I say that because you don't need to become a moderator in order to help new players understand the game. If possible, I would like if you could expand more and tell us what else you can offer if you become a moderator.

Overall, I'm going to give you a +1. Good luck buddy.

I really appreciate the feedback Zarpin. When trying to answer the question of why I wanted to become moderator, that is really what came to my mind first, helping newer players to understand the game mode better. However, I guess I should've expanded into other reasons I have for wanting to become moderator as well.

Another big reason I want to become Mod is so that I can help write the Brawl news. I've always been a good writer, so I feel having that job (or at least helping with it) would be fun for me. As said in my application, I have used hacked clients before and know quite a bit about whats available to prospective hackers. I feel that if I were given the opportunity of becoming moderator, I could harness this knowledge into being able to look for even the slightest different in a legit player, and one who is cheating, then ban accordingly.

One of the things the staff team is lacking right now is community interaction, and I think you'd do well at it. You've got a bunch of experience with CTF and it's great you're willing to help out. +1
