Story Infestation: Chapter 1 - By: Urkogun/D.S

As he followed the path back home, he heard the pitter-patter sound of the rain hitting the leaves. Up ahead was a puddle, of great size. His mother’s voice echoed in his head, “Stay away from all bodies of water, they attract the Creatures.” He ignored his mother’s advice. He slipped off his socks and shoes, tossing them on a nearby rock. He took a great leap into the puddle. He splashed the murky water around and laughed with joy. Bubbles arose from the bottom. He stopped playing and stayed motionless. As he started to lift himself out of the water, he was grabbed by something scaly. He screamed. It echoed in the empty forest. The scaly hand pulled him further, and further down into the brown, murky water. He screamed again. This time, he saw a figure a few yards away run into his vision. “Carter!” Carter looked up at the figure. He still felt the cold grip of the unknown Creature and it was pulling him further down. The figure had then been standing right next to Carter, trying to pull him up. Carter looked up and said, “Emma!” A fierce tug-of-war began between 14-year-old Emma and the Creature. Emma started to cry. “Carter, why did you do this?” He remained silent. “Carter, why won’t you answer me?” Carter remained silent, but he gasped. His sister’s face was superimposed with the face of a grown woman. After many tugs on Emma’s side, the Creature finally let go. Carter crawled out of the puddle and retrieved his socks. He started his journey back home, but Emma had different plans. “Carter, are you crazy? You could have been subdued by the Creatures.” He shrugged indifferently. “The New World Order has spread their so-called purity. The Resistance are losing more battles.” Emma looked at him. “You have the audacity to think about the Resistance when you almost lost your life?” She scoffed. “That’s what wrong with you, Carter. You think that we can make a change, save the world, but we can’t.” Carter wasn't the type of person to give up. “Emma, if we just got more recruits and strategized a bit more, we’ll have the NWO in our hands.” Carter was 13-years-old. He had emerald green eyes and cocoa brown hair. His sister, on the other hand, had sea blue eyes and dirty blonde hair. “It doesn't matter, Carter. We’re just kids.” Carter spat. “Emma, we’re not just kids. We’re different. Remember what Dad always said?” Emma stopped and looked down. Their parents were a touchy topic between them. “Yeah, “Everyone has a Gift, but you two, are different.” Carter and Emma came from a special family. They were one of the first targets for the New World Order when they rose to power. After many months of failed capture attempts, New World Order scientists created the Creatures. They had the ability to morph into any animal, or mixture of animals.“Carter, let’s just worry about getting home and then, maybe, we can stop the New World Order.” They both stopped and gasped.

The flames engulfed their house quickly. All their memories rising into the air. “Oh, what a pleasure. The Simmons are here.” Carter and Emma averted their eyes to Him, the leader of the NWO. Carter was furious. “You. You stay away from us. You’ll never stop us.” He laughed wickedly. “Carter, I will stop you. I've destroyed your home, captured your parents, and I’m getting closer to finishing my project.”
Project? What was he talking about? “You haven’t captured us yet, and the Resistance is getting stronger.” He walked closer, and they walked further back. “Emma and I are developing our powers, too. Once we master them, we’ll defeat you.” His eyes widened. “Powers, you say? You foolish boy,” he raised his hand and flames erupted from his hand, “powers are something I have had my whole life.” Carter was astonished. “Be warned, Carter Simmon. I will defeat you and your Resistance.” He whispered a spell and he was gone, but his presence lingered around Carter and Emma.
