    Bukkit is not shutting down. Mojang bought Bukkit a while back and they are going to continue updating it. Check page 4 on the thread link that you posted.

    They are just saying that to silence people's outcry.
    Do you think they can still work on minecraft AND keep bukkit up-to-date?
    Bukkit has requested mojang's help for three years to keep updates on track and mojang refused. The bukkit team pulled out because of mojang.

    If mojang doesnt update this then minecraft is screwed.
    Without bukkit minecraft wouldn't be what it is today

    I'm sure a new Bukkit clone will come out of the works. It is just a matter of time. We already have one, Spout.

    Mojang can not even fix cloud transparency. They are not going to be able to run a full api system, and fix requests from thousands upon thousands of devs. In addition to keeping minecraft itself going.

    Mojang might as well remove the "Multiplayer" button in the Minecraft start up screen, because of all of this bukkit, forge, spigot, etc "death" sentence. Mojang is only doing this because of Realms BS, "not enuf ppl are playing realms." Of course, Realms has nothing special. Poor Bukkit.

    The Man, The Friend, The Dude

    Once upon a time there was this man. Brave was he, imagination was his, and Sweden he hailed.
    This man then created a gift, for all to share. limitless potential was the key.
    All was well in the land. The people were happy the man 'twas too.
    Then one day a dark shadow crossed the land. The man ran far, far far far. Leaving a dear friend merely in charge.
    The friend leads on, prevails the gift.
    Only something is off.
    Something is wrong.
    Did the gift get stained?
    Will there be a new dawn?
    Then everything is still.
    Life goes on, but the friend begins to grow and grow. Changing the gift to and fro.
    He grew and grew till he could not expand.
    The friend had to get a helping hand.
    So he called a dude up, he shall not be named.
    For he was thy dark. He 'twas the stain.
    With backers of plenty he changed the gift.
    Nay!
    He poisoned the gift.
    Some suspected some protest, but no one could shine in his dark.
    For the dude lay something evil in his heart.
    Greed took control, back by his brethren he stole the gift.
    Of course he was cleaver, thinking ahead a lay out some lies that festered.
    Now the people caught on, for to they were cleaver.
    In glory they rebelled, cast aside the poison and shined onto the dude, hearts heavy with sadness.
    For they knew that the gift once given.
    Given so purely and simple for fun.
    Was truly dead, deserted, and done.
    For the man was still running.
    I can not say.
    Maybe one day, he will come back.
    I can not say.
    Maybe one day, he will fight back.
    I can not say.

    Know what I really hate? When people say that Mojang has ruined Minecraft. If you don't like the game don't play it, simple as that.

    Blah blah blah, Mojang will probably make their own Plugin/Mod API that hits both Bukkit, Spigot and Forge out of the whole business anyway, if they don't make said APIs to the official APIs.
