I'll try to include as less crap to read through and I'll include some sub-genres as well.

So, electronic music technically is majority of the vast majority stuff monstercat releases, and it refers to 'all music made artificially, without real instruments'. So, I wanted to bring it down.

    Firstly, you have dubstep.
It's probably something everyone has heard by now, and it features usually 1-3 so called 'drops', which are like choruses in songs, yet feel more active. It can be performed in various ways and can feature all kinds of sounds.

With that, you have the chill dubstep. This genre is not technically 'chillstep', because it has more of a drop and less of a house/EDM feelin to it. It just feels a bit more perhaps relaxing. Slower music as of whole.

Next off, you have brutal dubstep. This genre sounds crazy and has loud and unusually long drops with elements of rock in it. It feels a bit like trap at times.

Then, you have another genre, 'nightstep'. This genre is what it sounds: nightcore combined with dubstep elements. This music sounds a bit like DnB or drumstep, but it has the same feeling of bass.

Last, but no the least, you have vocal dubstep. I could note a bunch of artists, but basically, it's dubstep combined with vocals. Technically, any dubstep sub genre can feature voice, but on this one in particular, it has the most push on the vocals. Notably artists like Au5 or Krewella have vocals in their songs, same with Tristam.

Then, we move up the glitch hop. This genre consists higher beat rate and more sound effects rather than electronic beats, kicks and snares. It can be included in 2 sub-genres as of whole.

Firstly, you have the fast-paced glitch hop which is slightly faster and focuses on more electronic and dubstep-ish sound effects, keeping the track fresh. Tristam does this kind of Glitch Hop, by the way.

Then, you also have the 'classic' glitch hop, which has more of the original sounds. At the moment, Haywyre is the only Monstercat artist who still composes tracks like these as the main ones. They are slower, yet more immersive, and a bit less generic.

Then, we turn up to the next genre, drumstep. It has a lot more of drum feeling to it, and radically differs from dubstep. It has no sub genres due to songs sounding much the same. Done be a chunk of artists, my favorite being Rootkit.

Then, we turn up to the house. This is one of the more typical genres of the modern music, and featured a lot of snares, kicks and electro sound effects. The songs tend to stay the same, just the fracture changing. I would highly suggest listening to at least a few songs of this genre, because it can not be ruined. I myself really like listening to Hellberg, as his songs capture the emotions and sounds nobody can do besides him.

Speaking of electronic music, we have Electro. This genre is one of the most popular ones among the monstercat community, and features various electronic sounds, some taken out of video games, etc.
Monstercat publishes a lot of great Electro songs, and it's worth giving it a try. I'd like to note Rogue and Astronaut, as their music sounds really nice.

Well, we needed a big genre. YOU HAVE TRAP, SIR. It's a genre originated from rap and hip-hop being combined with drums and snares. As if EDM, hip hop and rap had a child. There are a few kinds of trap, some being more serious tracks, some being more focused around melody.

Firstly, you have the serious trap. No toy noises, just pure and serious form of trap music delivered with often unique sounds. If I ever listen to trap, I listen to this kind of trap overall. I highly suggest listening to Aero Chord, as his tracks are amazing and sound brilliant.

You also have the so-called chill trap. It's basically a little bit more melodic version of trap, which isn't as serious and has more sound variation. For the colorful.

Then, we have the popular EDM. I have always had a huuuge love for this genre as it can have variations and can be done in almost any way possible. Pegboard Nerds has done this. Mr. FijiWiji has done this. Heck, even Tut Tut child has done this. It has many kinds of it, and includes parts of all of the genres listed above. My own choice would be more of serious EDM, I'd suggest to listen to really almost any artist.

You can also have some more house-styled music there :v

After these, we have some lesser known genres, these being Indie Dance/Nu Disco. I have never listened to this genre, it's just not my kind of music. As far as I can tell, it is somewhat closer to classical music and is more melodic.

Afterwards, we have Trance. A genre being gravedug by Au5's newest song :v
This one is a fairly calm genre and can vary in both techno and more progressive-house-like music.

Techno sounds a lot more like 2000s Classic songs, as they have interesting melody and just sound a bit more futuristic than usually. I'd like to note artists like Eminence and Darude.

Lastly, you have the normal electronic-ish trance (possibly preferred by CaptainSparklez, a well-known youtuber). It sounds somewhat like progressive house, yet more deeper than usually and has slower sound. Can have a repeating melody.
    https://youtube.com/watch?v=cUy78QHeuvs

Next off, you have @audir8fan5's favorite, Le future bass. I'll be honest and say that it just isn't my kind of music, because it doesn't sound serious and manly enough (I ain't a few ;v). It has strange-ish sound with some tunes here and there. Could be from games. Also, the melodies are short and have this 'compressed' type of a feeling which makes it sound somewhat weird. I could note Laszlo, WRLD and Kasbo. There are not many songs, so it isn't as popular as let's say, Glitch Hop.

These are all of the genres in a nutshell, I hope you enjoyed it.
It only took me half an hour to write :l
