Basic guide to recording softwares.

Before you want to start recording and getting big on YouTube, you need to have something to record your gameplay with. Most likely a software you can use for smooth screen recording.

Here will be a few tips and tricks you should keep in mind.

1) Know your machine's specs. It is necesarry to know the technical abilities of your computer. This will determine, what kind of software do you want. The most important things are the graphics and video cards. They really do matter, if you want to record a 60 FPS gameplay.

2) Know your budget. It is necesarry to know how much money can you afford to spend in order to purchase a recording device or a software. Some softwares offer a lot, but are quite expensive. Other ones are cheap or free, but your framerate can look as if it was recorded on a toaster.

3) Think about increasing your FPS. This thing will vastly improve viewer's experience, as they will see the very beauty. You'll have to choose between high graphical fidelity and a HD image or a high frame rate, but everything else won't look as pretty. I'd advise to look up on some of the tutorials, because degrading a certain setting can actually worsen the framerate.


Best recording softwares are often paid and cost a lot. But here are a few cheaper or free ones.

This advanced screen recorder as available in both free and paid versions. Paid version (if legally bought) will cost you more than a MVP rank - 39 US dollars. While the free version will have a large 'BANDICAM' watermark all the time, which can be annoying. Full version provides window and screen modes. Will record better on high-end computers. Windows only.

This recorder is made to be sort of a strange one. Although it supposedly records in 30 fps, it can seem a lot less in the free version. You can download it for free, yet it uses similar technology system as Bandicam. For Windows.

Spoiler: QuickTime player

This screen recorder is featured in the Apple Mac computers, and will only perform well on 3rd and 4th generation Mac computers ( depending on the specs). It can seem to record in a higher frame rate than it actually does, but it will be a lot choppier once finished. In the older versions, you can't even choose the area to record. OSX will work.

Spoiler: Screenflow

Only for 100 dollars (lifetime MVP+extras), you will be able to get your hands on a smooth screen recorder. In all honesty, the free trial will have a watermark, but it won't lag as badly. I'd only advise to pirate this software, since it isn't worth spending so much money on. Mac and Windows.
