So I have recently decided to start coding (or try to learn it) and I have no idea what I am even doing. I started off learning Java and it's harder than I thought. Does anyone have any suggestions of what language I should start off with so I don't get totally confused?

You have Steam right? Go into like one of your games folders (tell me if you wanna know how to get there) and try getting used to the scripts. For example, CSGOs script folder can teach you what code would make up what gun and what skin and etc. You are learning basic coding here but I'm just telling you about coding for games here.

I guess game code is useful but I'm also learning this stuff for just regular coding. Like websites and stuff.

I have nothing about regular coding. Not even how to code a simple program. Good luck though, because I'll laugh if you end up coding a trojan by yourself.

Start with something like javascript, just to get a feel of what it's like. There are great javascript tutorials on codecademy.com that you can use. Once you feel like you understand the concept, try Processing. Processing is like java, but much simpler. Java is a huge pain in the ass, and is probably far more complicated than it needs to be. Processing (Processing.org) makes it fun and easy, and gives you a good base for understanding more complicated programming languages.

that is such a terrible idea. why try to learn the code from a complex game such as counter strike?

learn a fairly simple language just for the syntax. once you learn the syntax of one language, it's pretty easy to understand the syntax and concepts of others. something like python would be good

Learn some simple languages first like Mario stated. Python and JavaScript are simpler but give you an idea of the syntax that you find in Java.
