My computer can only play terraria at the moment, so... f*ck yus.
Anyway, a mining strategy is to get some Spelunker potions from underground chests and just dig a 2x2 tunnel right down to Hell. Also, your should get it for PC, on Steam. Or you could do what I did and pirate it.
To find bosses, you can find Suspicious Looking Eyes in underground chests which summon the Eye of Cthulu, who's a flying gigantic eye that tries to ram into you. He's pretty easy, with the right equipment. He also summons little minions, who are pretty stupid, and most weapons can 1-shot kill them.

OHHH SON OF A ***** DUDE I JUST MADE A HORRIBLE MISTAKE GODDAMNIT
In the PC version, there's this super OP boss called Skeletron Prime. He's a giant f*cking skull with 4 arms that have like 20k health each and a **** ton of defense, and if you spawn him at night and don't kill him by sunrise, he goes into this weird headspin that f*cking INSTAKILLS YOU. I just made that mistake, and I lost 2 platinum coins, which are worth 100 gold each. It sucks. *facedesk*
