I posted a similar thread a while ago (long before I joined Brawl) on a completely different forum and I'm just reviving it for the sake of it but I feel it needs to be brought up because people migrating from you know who have a decent fanbase and are planning to make moves (well I think, correct me if I'm wrong) and get a fanbase for this server as well. What I will attempt to run you through is general equipment, software, advice, pretty much anything in those fields that I can come up with.

    EQUIPMENT
    ------------------

While this field is not a necessity in video-making (something along the lines of the machine doesn't make the man but I don't know, it will definitely apply to this) it is desirable to audiences that you have professional or quality equipment. No one wants to hear someone spitting into a laptop mic while they play Minecraft in 20FPS, putting it through Bandicam Trial without making any attempt to remove the watermark then rendering it in Camtasia Studio (well that's on a completely different section but it needs mentioning here). I don't need to make another example explaining what people would want because you already have the gist of it.

I'll just run through some general equipment you may want if you want to be on your way to becoming a decently running channel, you don't need this specific equipment but it would be a recommendation in my books if you want to save slightly more money while being able to produce something of high quality:

Microphones: Audio-Technica AT2020, Blue Microphones Snowball (Standard, not ICE version), Blue Microphones Yeti, Trust Starzz, Behringer C1, Behringer C1U. If you want a run-down version; don't use a microphone that sounds like you're trying to sing "Au clair de la lune" through a faulty autophonograph (only 1860s kids will get this joke lelelele)

Gaming PC Hardware: Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti, Intel Core i3 4130, AT LEAST 8GB of RAM, 1333MHz or above (16GB if you're doing more intensive work), AMD Radeon HD 7770, Nvidia GeForce GTX 760, Intel Core i5 2500k/i5 4670k, a decent monitor (anything below 1680x1050 res. is not recommended but again that is not my choice), 1/2GB of V-RAM (you may have more than this if you are using a very high-end shaders mod in conjunction with about 3-2 other gameplay mods), perhaps more than 2 cores if you want some more render distance or efficient usage (this can be used in Optifine), but again I could be wrong.

Headsets (Gaming): A4Tech Bloody G501, Gioteck EX-05, Gioteck EX-06, Razer Kraken Pro, Razer Megalodon, Tritton Kunai, pretty much any TurtleBeach headset may work as long as it's not the ones that screeching Call of Duty children use to say they had some sort of intercourse with your/someone else's mother.

    SOFTWARE
    -----------------

As mentioned before, no one wants someone playing Minecraft in 20FPS with a Bandicam Trial watermark put through Camtasia Studio so I'll give you a list of the leading (or most popular) softwares used in recording, audio production/mastering, and editing/rendering:

Recording: FRAPS, DxTory and Nvidia ShadowPlay are the best ones I can come up with on this list (makes you question whether I should've made this list in the first place) but Camtasia is an option AS LONG AS YOU KNOW HOW TO PROPERLY UTILIZE THE SOFTWARE.

Audio Mastering/Production: Audacity, Sony Sound Forge (any version above 9.0), FL Studio 12, Ableton Live 9, Logic Pro X, Cubase 8, Reason, Garageband (not recommended for people at a slightly more advanced level, however this is a very good start for your school's music studios or if you're only new to DAWs)

Video Editing: Adobe After Effects CC, Adobe Premiere Pro CC, Adobe Photoshop CC, Sony Vegas Pro 13, Final Cut Pro X, Cinema 4D, DO NOT USE O.S STANDARD EDITING SOFTWARES SUCH AS IMOVIE OR WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER, AT ALL COSTS. NOT ONLY ARE THEY VERY FAULTY BUT THEY WILL ALSO SEVERELY LIMIT OPTIONS FOR ANY POTENTIAL DETAILS YOU WISH TO ADD TO THE FINAL PRODUCT.

    ADVICE
    ------------

THIS SECTION IS CLASSED AS A TRIGGER WARNING; IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED OR IN ANY STATE THAT FITS INTO THE LATTER THEN YOUR BEST ACTION WOULD BE TO SKIP THIS. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

This is where I get really edgy. I'm going to tell you every mistake that YouTubers, gaming channels specifically, fall into, and make fun of it and you may be the exact thing I'm talking about.

Please, please please stop using templates from other people just so you can look good. You have no idea of the capabilities your editing software is capable of (if you're not using iMovie or Movie Maker). Learn your software, there's more to gaming channels than just snapping clips and jumpcuts together with funny music in the background and that is where some of the appeal comes in.

Another thing, I'm really sick (and I don't know if anyone else is) of people using generic, repetitive, and generally overrated Electro-House, Dubstep, Drum and Bass and Drumstep tracks from producers such as Tristam, Pegboard Nerds, Ephixa, or anyone related. If anything, Martin Garrix - Animals sounds like a furious table-tennis player hitting his ball against a toilet seat (IMPORTANT: This is an edited cut of what I originally said, due to the inappropriate nature of it, so pardon me if the humour happens to suck a little bit.). Try some more scarcely populated but talented producers such as Feint and Mr. FijiWiji, and be sure to use a fitting track.

I was expecting this right from the start: "HURGRHGURUGR SOME PPLZ DONT HAVE DA MUNIZ TO DO STUFF HURRHUR GIVE US A CHANCE PLSPLS". I HONESTLY DON'T CARE, IF YOU WANT TO BE ALL ABOUT GAMING OR MINECRAFT OR WHATEVER YOU'RE PURSUING YOU MUST MAKE MONEY SOME WAY. Mow your neighbour's lawn, mow the whole damn neighbourhood's lawn if you have to. Get a part-time job, a best friend of mine, same age as me was able to. There are no excuses. Save up every single coin and don't spend it no matter what, until you have received enough to kickstart your channel with. Again, NO EXCUSES. MAKE MONEY IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT.

People like Tenshirox are really talented with art made unique to certain channels but I'm not talking about him, I'm talking about a certain 'group' of YouTubers who are the exact opposite. Instead, they load up MS Paint, drag and drop a copyrighted image then put their channel name in front of it really badly. I'm not going to say anything else. Learn your software and just stop.

Not that this is a major problem nowadays but it's still a problem nontheless. Nicknames. They need to be catchy and memorable. You can remember "CIA", "NSA", "McDonalds", "KFC", "Burger King", "Coca Cola", "Ministry of Defense", "MI6", yes? Yes, you can and if you don't understand already it's that even military forces and agencies need a memorable name.
The point I'm making is no one is going to look you up or even remember you if your name is "XxX_SpaceSquirrel3.141592653589GamesHD_XxX", you need a memorable name that's snappy and to the point but try not to be that one pretentious tryhard that attempts to look smart by adding an extra 'i' or 'q' in the middle of it and a needlessly complicated word, an example of this would be "Inertiia" or anything that follows that formula.

Don't make commentaries where you only say "Hey what's up guys it's me here with another CoD video I think I got like 110-3 this game, so yeah I'm going ham right now...okay what's up guys...umm, I don't know what to say so I'll just leave you guys, like and subscribe.".

Also, think of Montage Parodies. People make them because people do the exact same things I just mentioned in this section, along with flasing "PLS SUBSCRIBC PLES" all over the screen. You need to think for a second. That is all.

One additional note, there also seems to be this thing with really bad YouTubers who have literally no hope of getting back up where they do giveaways at 20 subscribers. Seriously? Honestly, I understand it's a way to advertise a channel and make it more appealing to the viewers but there is absolutely no need to do that so prematurely, do it at 100 subscribers or 1,000. If anything, you're driving away potential viewers. It makes me understand the people that think we only use 10% of our brain at a time, because you keep doing pointless move-forwards and methods when you could've at least taken into account the pros and cons.

EDIT: This is probably in the wrong section but throw me into the Syrian deserts then run me over with a Jeep if it does happen to be. I wish members had the ability to move threads into another section.

This guide contained more information than about a 3rd of all YT videos about this topic.

As of right now, I was working towards my own YouTube channel, however, I became inactive in that field due to my school. If I ever return to YouTube, I'll definitely use the tips given in this guide.

    Ok,
Pretty helpful guide, I have to admit.
Personally, I've failed to do most of these, but I still feel that my videos are at least decent.
(Movie Maker is god, overused music is bae (<--- I hate that word with a passion, but whatever), and I record on a cheap laptop. My entire setup probably isn't even worth $600.) But hey, I've gained over 150 subscribers in around 2 months, so I must be doing something right? :stuck_out_tongue:

FINALLY SOMEONE HAS PUT IN MY THOUGHTS INTO WORDS
There needs to be uniqueness, don't be a basic youtuber and do whatever the hell everyone is doing. And also put in some effort, some of yall expect to wake up with 5 million fans outside your door and your video was a 10 minute job start to finish. One advice I can give is Make videos YOU would want to watch.

Nice guide. I'll most likely buy one of those microphones you suggested. Already got a Razer Headset and planning to buy good recording and editing software x3. Thanks for the tips! I'll be sure to use these in the future :grinning:
