I have a HORRIBLE computer. My computer was made in 2007, meaning all my hardware is severely outdated. I have gathered information and have done my research on how to reduce lag!
1st. Get optifine! Download and install optifine as it has many useful lag reducing functions!
2nd. Set priorities! Open up task manager if you have windows. Hold down Ctrl+Shift+Esc then go to Applications, right click on all your other applications that don't require a lot of resources such as skype and others, then click on "Go to process", right click the highlighted process and select "Set priority" set the priority to below normal or whatever you feel is necessary. Then repeat the process but for minecraft and set the priority to "Realtime" or "High".
3rd. Close all programs that don't need to be open! Open up task manager again, go to "Processes" look for all processes that are useless to what you're currently doing, right click then and "End task". It's important to end processes that are use internet connections such as scheduled updates like java, adobe etc.
4th. Turn off all WiFi devices!
5th. Edit minimum launcher version! Go to your .minecraft by holding down the windows key and R, click on .minecraft next go to versions open the folder that contains the profile that you use, if you use optifine open the folder named optifine, then open the .json file and look for this and change the 13 to a 20. Keep in mind this works for 75% of PCs and it may not work for you, so if it reduces your frames be sure to change it back to 13.
6th. Upgrade the amount of GB dedicated to your minecraft profile! For this to work you must have the correct version of java installed please refer to this video for details, then open your Minecraft edit the profile and look the bottom of the edit profile GUI and change the 1G to 2G. What this does is dedicates more RAM to your minecraft making it run faster. Be wary of your total RAM and make sure you have enough to do this.
Thanks for ready I hope I helped! Please leave a like and comment on how many frames these six steps have increased your frames.

Increase my ping? Yes, of course!

Also, I've tried everything here before and...

    It doesn't work :frowning:

    My recommendations
    1) Hardwire in, don't use wifi
    2) Use a utility like AVG PC Tune up, I saw noticeable improvements by running the cleaning utilities every 3 days. It has a nifty turbo feature.
    3) Replace your graphics card.
    4) Use a desktop instead of a laptop (for those of you buying new computers.
    5) If you buy a laptop, Craigslist is a great place to get deals. I bought my MSI dragon laptop for a great price and it was only 2 years old. It compliments my home built tower when I take trips. Sure it's a gaming computer brick but it moves fast and I like gaming laptops, the turbo feature and high speed fan is nice.

Also, make sure you have the drivers for your graphics card correctly installed.

Ping = latency, what you want is lower ping!

As someone with an awesome computer but ****ty internet, I have some tips:

    1. If possible use a 5 GHz router and 5 GHz network adapters on devices (as opposed to 2.4 GHz) to reduce interference and latency and increase bandwidth. The best method is a Gigabit (or 10 Gigabit) Ethernet cable but not many people can stretch wires across their homes.

    2. Use OpenDNS. You can set this on the router level for all computers in your home or just set it for your computer. The IPs for the OpenDNS servers are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.

Also some tips for your computer (in addition to what Jacoby) posted):

    1. Ensure you're using a 64-bit operating system

    2. Ensure that your drives have at least 50% disk space

    3. Ensure that you're using the latest 64-bit Java

    4. Ensure that your RAM is at least 50% free

    5. Regularly run things like CCleaner, Defraggler, and Malwarebytes.

    6. Block advertisements and crapware on the OS-level. Put this in"C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts"
