Hello, I have a weird computer question. I think I am pretty familiar with computers hardware ECT and diagnosing problems. I Just dont understand this problem. I know my laptop is old but I just use it for browsing the web and it handles that just fine, I do not game on it. The specs are Intel core 2 duo 3 gigs ram and Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. The problem is my laptop can just go from using a quarter of the cpu to using 100% For example, when I started writing this my cpu was working normally now its using 100% of my cpu and really laggy. I have to wait about a minute for the words to catch up after writing a sentence. They just dont appear for a while. I know its not a virus I just completely wiped it and re installed windows I did that because I was having the same cpu problem before and figured it was a virus. Reinstalling windows did not help. Is the cpu just failing because of its age? (Something to add) Now my laptop is running perfectly fine everything good. I have some screenshots of cpu usage and stuff like that. Note I know the laptop can handle windows 7 64 bit because I have used it for about 2 years with that os and never had this problem.

The second picture is just showing none of the running processes are eating up my cpu. Also the laptop just lags randomly it doesnt really matter what im doing it can be sitting after a restart nothing running and do it.

Every time a computer recalls a piece of data, it will gradually fragment. This makes the computer slower as it needs more time to recall the data. Defragging the hard drive is much quicker and simple then wiping the OS.

But since computers (especially laptops) tend to get slower around 2-3 years of usage the only diagnosis is just age. However, can you tell us how much hard drive space you have used? The more full your hard drive is the slower the computer will be.

    I hope this helped.

Okay. Since you stated you have no viruses or malicious programs, my only diagnosis is age. It happens to all computers sooner or later.

If you know how to monitor your CPU I presume you know how to see how much each task is using.
I would look at what's causing the resource spikes, if it's something beguine like Chrome, then your laptop is probably just dying / dead.

Your CPU is probably overheating. That's why it appeares after some time.

No It can do it right after i turn my computer on like not even a minute in. The vents are clean and the computer itself is not that hot I keep it on a cooling table thing for laptops

The problem I see is 64bit OS with 3GB RAM. 32bit systems are limited to "seeing" 6Gb. So why have 64bit?

32 bit is limited to 4GB, however, this is not a reason to be using 32 bit over 64 bit. There is no reason to use 32 bit over 64 unless the PC is severely outdated, which it doesn't seem that his is.

I would check the CPU temps using a program such as RealTemp, make sure CPU throttling is enabled, and try using a different browser if this only occurs while on the internet.

You might want to defrag once a week or run a utility tool to help optimize your system.

In Task Manager, you can designate priority level and that might help too.

I think your heatsink might be bad, or the thermal paste isn't making good contact with the heatsink. If it has stopped then there is nothing to worry about.
