If anyone wonders why/how I get so rich raiding bases without tracking, here's a prime example.

Below is a base I'm gonna raid once the lag clears. See that speck? Yeah. It's probably a crafting table or similar. My guess is that there are a bunch of chests up there.

My point is that bases can be found easily if you know what to look for.

I'm curious, what certain blocks in your opinion can be so good that it's nearly impossible to detect a base in the sky and how? (This does not count if block textures are edited to make bases obvious).

Got any other pro tips for finding underground bases? I wouldn't really consider myself that of a "pro raider"

Chests are a good choice. There are issues with Minecraft rendering code that prevents chests from rendering if they're too far away. I'm not sure if that's been patched, but for my sake, I really hope it isn't

Chests and Trapped Chests. Anything else is visible from ground.

Look for weird blocks that don't belong there (like a chunk of granite in the middle of a desert). Dig down.

Also, if you see a ton of mobs, or fully grown cactus or sugarcane, it's a sure bet the chunks have been continuously loaded for a while. Go to the middle of the mobs/grown cacti/etc and either tower up or dig down.

Minecraft treats chests as entities if I recall and specifically does not render them from a distance. This is a feature, not a bug, since entities require more client resources than plain blocks and rendering them only when they are up close improves performance.

I understand that too close to the spawn and you won't find OP and too far away and you won't find unraided bases as easily, so my question is, how far out should you go for efficient raiding?

I usually stick to 8k-13k personally. Noobs usually like to hug the border and stick to spawn. I usually find the best raids within that region. Also, I find more bases to be in the - - quadrant, so perhaps try to look there.

There is a sweet spot between about 5k and 10k from spawn. That being said, though, if you go far out, the bases are rare but usually much better. Quantity of bases is higher near spawn, but quality of bases is better away from spawn.

The added benefit of raiding from walking is that it's hard for others to track you while you are moving. I have never been tracked to a base I was raiding, nor has anyone else tracked me while I was walking around.

My bases are very well hidden.
Now I stick to skybases, just cause I like how easy it is to make and how well hidden you can keep it
I make mine over the water, but I have a very crappy skybase with cobble for the floor, and I can't replace it since there is a mooshie up there.

It has been standing for 5 months, in an obvious location.

I would love to raid the way you do but I don't have the spare time to glare into the sky whilst wondering around hopelessly until I find something... xD <3
