    Add the distance to your destination to the scoreboard thingymajicky.

    This is a good idea, maybe if you had no destination on your compass it could point to the nearest town or cartel.

    This feature WAS actually implemented, if just showed on the Boss Bar (the ender dragon & wither health bar), don't know what happened to that. But I would really like it to be reimplemented.
