Yeah thats a laptop, laptops have way smaller ram than desktops PC. Let's say that PC's have way bigger things than laptop's.

To save money you can either crack windows 7 or get Linux.

RAM really has no difference in this comaprisom. Side by side SODIMMS and DIMMS are quite similar. You need a GPU in your build mate. Also, if you manage to scrap together this barebones build, in a few years it will start to show it's age, and you pretty much back to square one.
My mantra always is buy once cry once. If you can afford to wait a little longer save up some more $$$, you'll thank me later, that I guarantee

Never go cheap on your parts, that will be one of your biggest regrets. Also, don't forget about a GPU, this will help you out tremendously. Best bet is to go for about 650 watt PSU, a GPU around 200-250 USD, a 1tb HDD, a case around 60-100 USD(if you're on a budget), get a motherboard that is ATX(not micro atx, you won't be able to fit much on it for upgrades), for RAM I'd say 8-16(never go for 2,6,10, or 12) and also buy it in pairs from the same manufacturer and same model, you should also upgrade your CPU(remember to never go cheap on any of your parts, you're getting what you paid for).
