DISCLAIMER: This thread is nothing official, it is to see the HG community's perspective on 1.9.

Most other HG servers are in 1.7. Why? This is what I think:
    - Blockhitting. Many people love blockhitting, and it's also a lot more noob friendly. I would like to see Brawl add this into HG, don't know whether it is possible though.

    and now,
    1.9, the Combat Update.

As many of you know by now,
    - Sword blocking is removed
    - Shields have been added
    - All weapons have a cooldown timer
    - New arrows

One thing I will admit, HG will never stay in 1.8 forever, like it or not. Instead, the coders have to revert the 1.9 updates back to 1.8. Don't get me wrong, some parts are cool, but others are bad to HG. This is what I suggest.
    - Keep the new arrows. Maybe an archer buff?
    - Revert EVERYTHING else related to combat back to 1.8. Add sword blocking back, remove the cooldown timer, remove shields crafting recipe.

Now, everything I've been saying has been related to Soup HG. How about No Soup?
I think some aspects could be kept in No Soup to attract new players, coz that's the main goal of No Soup. But I think sword cooldown should be removed, no matter what. Tell me what you think.

I myself am not really a big fan of the 1.9 update, for same reasons you mentioned. While it's true we won't be able to stay in 1.8 forever, it's almost certain weapon cooldowns will never see the day in Soup HG. In any case, we'll be sure to discuss it thoroughly once we're there and will also get the community's input on it before making a final decision.

I agree with not having sword cooldowns in soup, not sure with shields since I haven't really gotten a chance to mess around with them.

With nosoup I'm not sure about having them, I can see your point about keeping them for new players, but I still feel like they take a lot of the skill away from PVP. It seems that whoever gets the first hit on a player will win the fight, considering all things are equal, which doesn't require a whole lot of skill.

The new arrows should be found at the feast in soup. That could be cool. Everything else should be reverted back to 1.8/1.7
No-soup should have the sword cooldown, but the hoes should be buffed slightly.

Personally, I love the new cooldowns. The shields are really what pulls it all together, though.
Perhaps, if the cooldowns were going to be implemented in nosoup, everyone gets an iron ingot to start with, to make a shield? Or even just making iron more common, so more people can get it early game.

    @Viva
Technically, its all equal. But overall, you still have to time your blows and make sure you hit what you mean to, so if you can dodge you can still win even if you don't get the first hit.
And we can't forget about armor!
The shields are huge too. And you want to come prepared with an Axe to fight those.
At least, that's my opinion. I suppose I'm not as informed about it compared to other PvPer's, but I would actually like to play a couple games with the cooldown. Right now, I've only gotten to fight my brother, so I'd like to see how I compare to a more experienced PvPer.
I've always been a nosouper, so I don't know what to say about soup. The speed that it works at though makes me think that either you REALLY shouldn't use the cooldowns, or you really should, just to slow it down and see :grinning:
Of course, it would need some serious reworking though.
And thats not why I started on this topic. I got distracted... :stuck_out_tongue: Sorry. I've just never been a fan of the soup style of fighting.
    Yep.

The cooldown should never be implemented in soup PVP because soup PVP is designed to be fast and intense, and the cooldown just slows it down. However I would like to see most of the new 1.9 features in no-soup because it would give it some originality and make it appealing to noobs. Armor recently got nerfed in 1.9, so I think it will have to be buffed in soup PVP because I like the way armor is now.
