Almost all players have once in their lifetime played with a resource pack, but do these latter know how to create their own, by themselves?

This is the aim of this guide which is going to explain to the greatest number of you, how to establish a model for your textures from A to Z and how to add some animated in-game features.

This guide will be divided in two distinct parts:
    • The first one will broach the first textures which will constitute your pack in the future, as well as a guide allowing you to get your bearings concerning the folders that compose your pack.
    • The second one, as for it will be about how to create animated and 3D textures, as well as modifying particules and other details.
First Part - Find and Modify textures
    • A) Catch the useful textures in the .zip folder.
    • B) Modify your first textures (items/blocks).

    A) Catch the useful textures in the .zip folder:

Is it very easy to download a texture pack on Minecraft, in order to make the basic textures of the game better, but actually a lot of folders and pictures compose its all.

Firstly, unzipping the resource pack is highly recommended, with en eye to easily modify the textures without having to restart Minecraft every time, by means of the F3+S command to update the whole textures and sounds.

To unzip a compressed folder, it is enough to have a software such as 7-Zip or Winrar, and right click on the desired folder.
Contents of the "minecraft" folder containing 12 subsections.
To gain access to the editable pictures, you juste have to unzip the folder as shown above go to:
    assets > minecraft > textures.
Each folder indicates a category where the pictures are saved:
    • The subsection "items" contains all of the in-game items as well as food.
    • The folder "gui" contains inventory interfaces, chests, furnaces... But it allows you to modify the in-game titles.

    B) Modify the first textures of your future Pack:
Once the folder explored, it is easy to find a picture that we want to work on and modify. To modify this latter, right click and open it with a picture editor such as Photoshop, Paint.net or PhotoFiltre.

Then, to modify the textures pixels per pixels, you have to choose the smallest paintbrush. Then, the sword can be modeled following its creator's imagination.

Here is an example made with a diamond_sword:
On the left, a faithful diamond sword, on the right, the same diamond sword with modified textures.
There are no contraints while creating the sword or an other block/item, as long as you do not go over the edges of the delimited zone (white and grey squares) and a multiple of 16 (16x16, 32x32, 64x64, 128x128, etc.).

Once the texture established, it's time to test it in-game! Drag it into the Resource Pack folder.

    %appdata% > .minecraft > resourcepacks (Windows).
    Alt+go > application folder > minecraft > resourcepacks (OS X).

Minecraft automatically changes the colors of the pictures from the overlay (ex : potion_overlay). It is also highly discouraged to modify these .png, otherwise the colors of these may be affected.

For a blue overlay, Minecraft uses for example a red color for the heal potion, this latter will be also purple in the player's hand.

On the left a basic overlay and on the right a blue overlay.

Here is an glimpse of what gives the modified texture in-game.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first part of this guide is finished. By means of this latter, it is now easy to modify pickaxes, swords textures.
The second part of this guide will be about a more technical part of Resource Packs, like the animated textures or 3D.

If you're going to do a few parts of this, I'd suggest just doing a video. It'd make it a lot easier for you.

I am already writing the part two, and I do not need to do a video, as it will be very explanatory.

I'm just stating it'd be better to have a video because people would be more interested instead of just reading some giant thread.

I really like this thread, I was actually wondering how to make a resource pack, but no one could describe it well enough. I'll make sure to use this thread while making it

I forgot to add the source, thanks for reminding me though. But do you think Epicube is going to lodge a compliant for copyrighting its guides? Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think so, I just want to help players who unfortunately either do not understand French or do not know how to create a resource pack.
    Please now get back on-topic.

Isn't this the 2nd topic you 'translated' in a short time. Instead of stealing stuff that other people have written why don't you make your original content. Or just dont tryhard for mod :^

why didnt you say that you forgot about adding that the first time i dont understand. other than that its pretty obvious that you just copied, translated it and pasted it again if you look at the grammar, although you changed a few things to not make it look exactly copy and pasted which also means that "only translating it so other players can understand" is bs since you are trying to somewhat hide that you copy pasted it

they probably won't, you're right, but nevertheless copying other people's ideas is somewhat a form of plagiarism and, considering you're an ex mod and someone who is applying to be mod again, it doesn't look good on behalf of brawl or you if there is plagiarism happening

When translating a guide you should state that right at the start of the thread and link the source. However, @Algelier did that now so it is time to stop the discussion and get back to the topic of the guide.
