    Brawl Junior Moderator Application:

Have you read over this thread? - Yes.

    Name changes: oXelkippyHead92o for Halloween
    Shared account: No.
    Time zone: US Central
    Languages: English, some Spanish

What is your experience and knowledge of Minecraft? -
My love of Minecraft had a pretty basic start with a couple of Yogscast videos, a funny Team Avo video, and a visit to a Team 9000 public server. I thought that minecraft was the coolest looking game I’d ever seen because I could make my own game within the game. Now, I’ve been playing for about 5 years and consider myself a veteran.

    Experience includes:
    • Membership on various servers ranging from vanilla survival to adventure and mini games; my main servers have been Brawl, MCPVP, and a few pre-EULA survival servers
    • Public server moderation
    • Server ownership and setting up an externally hosted server with plugins
    • Setting up and running server forums
    • Online promotion
    • Game map building (useful things include spawns, maps for game modes, etc)
    • Community creation through building relationships and involvement
    Brawl-specific knowledge and experience:
    • Member of the Brawl Build Team (since August 2015)
    • Member of MinecraftBuild community (since August 2014)
    • Creative WE Pro, Opped access on the creative multiverse worlds
    • Basic WorldEdit teacher and general Build server assistance
    • Former CTF team leader (June 2015 - Nov 2015)

What is your experience with moderating servers, if any?
    - For two years I served as a moderator on the Kingdom Of Artania server, which was a Spigot server with four main multiverse game worlds: Survival, Hardcore Survival, Creative, and Mini Games. As a full moderator my responsibilities included chat monitoring, player assistance, using Log-Block and anti-griefing rollback tools, Towny setup, temporary and permanent bans, forum moderation, and server building tasks. I also assisted with online server promotion through administrative tasks on Planet Minecraft, the Minecraft Server List, various other voting sites, and by using Minebook as a visibility and player recruitment tool.

What will you provide to the community if you are provided moderator status? -
I know Build server rules and player commands, WorldEdit commands and tricks, general Brawl server information, and already assist players on the Build server on a regular basis. I would like to assist in chat moderation to keep flame wars to a minimum and create a better gaming experience for players.

Have you ever used a hacked client before? - Briefly. I played with it on a private server to see what kinds of hacks are available and what they look like. I prefer to know what I’m dealing with when there’s a hacker online.

Have you ever been banned on a Minecraft server? If so, why? - Only temp banned because of staff shenanigans.

What do you consider your greatest strength? - Teaching on Build. Small tricks here and there can make a world of difference when it comes to building. When I have time, I really don’t mind walking through things step by step to make sure a player understands how to do it. Knowledge is powerful and travels, and it starts with just a couple of people here and there.

What do you consider your greatest weakness? - One weakness that I’ve been working on improving is my ‘tone of voice’ when responding to people in Build. I sometimes come off a bit more harshly than intended, but I’m working to soften it up and be more kind.

How active do you consider yourself on Brawl? - On the Build and CTF servers I clock 8-15 hours a week during the school year and am planning to be online 20+ hours a week through summer break.

I’m in Skype calls daily and it is my preferred method of communication because of video functions, but I am also on Discord and TeamSpeak from time to time. I see more value in one-on-one calls and private rooms than public ones, to be honest, because you can focus on actually carrying a conversation or helping.

Which Brawl servers are you most active on? - My time lately has been split between CTF and Build for map testing and building, and I help other players with their maps on Build. When I have the time I build for the Brawl Build Team.

How many hours can you provide a day and during what time frame? - Availability is fairly open starting July, 3+ hours a day during US time zone hours. When school starts back up in late August, I’m available about 2 hours a day on Tues-Wed-Fri-Sat-Sun evenings.

What would you do if someone breaks a rule in-game? -
I would follow Brawl staff procedures and calmly do what is in my power to take care of the situation.

Chat offenses: record evidence and pm the player a warning. Mute them short term if those warnings are ignored, and mute for a longer period of time if they persist after the first mute. If the rules they break are particularly severe (ddos/death threats), I would notify a more senior staff member so that they can take appropriate action.

Hackers getting around anti-cheat: record footage and contact a higher level moderator to ban. Hacking is more of a problem in PVP game modes, not so much for Build.

Players creating lag machines: record evidence, give warnings and a chance to get rid of the machine, and then contact a higher level moderator in order to ban them if they refuse and persist.

Players intentionally crashing the server repeatedly: start contacting a moderator while recording evidence, get a moderator to ban the player ASAP before players start leaving the server.

What would you do if someone breaks a rule on the forums? - Depends on what forum permissions I have and the severity of the violation. If it’s flame, spam, or necro-bumping, report the post. If it is something that needs to be removed immediately (illegal or otherwise), get ahold of a forum manager immediately, or remove if I have access.

What would you do if someone breaks a rule on TS3? - Follow staff procedures. Remind them of the rules, take them to a private channel and speak with them. If they’re still being problematic, follow with temp bans, etc (assuming they ignore warnings).

Situation (as a staff member): You log on Brawl, and you’re told that there is a huge, game-breaking economy glitch. No Admins are online to solve the situation. What steps would you take to handle the issue? - Quiet damage control. Message regulars who know about the glitch in order to get them to not spread it around. Message admins about the situation and attempt to get ahold of them as quickly as possible.

How many Brawl staff applications have you made in the past? - None.
What is the date of the last application you submitted? - N/A
Do you have a working microphone? - Yes
Are you able to record and upload videos? - Yes

Do you generally know how all the staff member commands work?
    - I know and understand most of them.

Anything else we should know about you? -
As of right now, there are no active Build moderators in US time zones. Build’s in-game chat has a reputation for being flooded with arguments/insults, particularly when EU moderators are asleep, and there are a number of threads requesting a way to mute global chat because of it. Since I’m online later in the day when EU mods aren’t available, I would be able to assist with rule enforcement, and this could help create a more positive atmosphere.

    Thanks for your time.
