Conflictions on What Is Inappropriate and What Is Not

    I wasn't sure where to post this. I was going to post it in Q & A, but this isn't a question. This is a statement.

    Something tells me that what is considered inappropriate varies among staff members.
    Here is a list of reports of mine that I find were improperly resolved.

    • I reported a player that had the name a**pipe, and his skin had clearly drawn genitalia on it. The report came back as "Offense too minor."
    • I reported a player that had the name SaltyPubicHair, and his skin had a swastika on the back. I know players have been punish for having swastikas on their skin, but this report came back as "Offense too minor."
    • On TeamSpeak, I reported a channel that had the name "Pig Benis". The Mod I reported it to told me it's not inappropriate.
    • Another time on TeamSpeak, I clicked on Sphamy and saw that he had an inappropriate description. The description had an email address on it (possibly a fake one) that said something like "eata**[email protected]". The Mod I reported it to told me it's not inappropriate.

    Btw, the TS ones were reported to nezzr.

    The names I would say are a little minor but someone before had a name similar to those and got banned. The ts ones should have been banned.

    We don't ban for inappropriate skins and the names are completely fine otherwise.

    I recall one on Wild West where this guy had a swastika on his skin. @TheMafias, or whatever Mod or JMod was on told him to change his skin.

    Having an inappropriate skin is not against the rules. Whether or not something is appropriate is up to the discretion of whichever mod you report it to, as there isn't a list of what is considered appropriate or not in the handbook.

    1) The policy and practice needs to change. @chickenputty

    2) Those skins are offensive and the policy needs to be changed so that mods ask players to change the offensive skin.

    3) Those names are inappropriate and Mods need to ask players to change them as well.

    I know a few people that got punished for inappropriate skins. I think the problem lies in consistency. Not every moderator has the same views or discretion.

    I reported someone called AdolfCrittler_ - 'Offence too Minor' - Considering hitler is a censored word, I don't see how this name is allowed.

    It is a problem when the rules that @Speedcell mentioned aren't enforced. The names I mentioned in the OP violate those rules.

    We only ban accounts with very obviously vulgar names. Otherwise, we would be banning a LOT of players.

    First of all, you guys would let someone run around with a skin, that looks nude, with clearly draw sexual parts?

    Second of all, could you explain what names would fall under "very obviously vulgar"? The names I mention, "a**pipe and SaltyPubicHair" are very obviously vulgar to me.

    We can maybe discuss adding in protocol for vulgar skins, but right now we have no restrictions so it would be improper for us to randomly ban some players for their skins.

    Names are hard to draw the line what is bad and isn't. I just don't want names with obvious curse words in them. I'd like the server to stay around PG-13. That's why we don't ban for those kinds of names.

    Just a bit of advice, When planning on reporting anything be sure to choose wisely who you report to. Different staff members will handle things differently.

    That's the point of this thread. Each staffer shouldn't handle the same situation differently.

    We attempt to standardize certain specific actions such as threats, but we can't make a time/descision for every possible thing that goes wrong. As a result, some moderators may handle situations a bit differently, but the result is usually similar (ex: 5 min mute vs 10 min mute). It even mentions in the mod guide that certain things are up to our discretion for times.
