Sheriff Promotions

There has always been a fair bit of controversy regarding sheriffs. In this post I would like to address the promotion of sheriffs, and the changes that I believe will help fix the problem (somewhat).

Sheriff activity is well known to be consistently inconsistent. Either there are six of us online, or one to 0 of us. Obviously this is a problem since it messes with the way players... Well play, and yes despite what so many of you say about us sheriffs we know you really love us

What if instead of promoting 3-9 sheriffs every month, players are promoted on a weekly or bi weekly basis? Hear me out first! I am not suggesting that staff promote 6 players every week, but instead keep the sheriff apps open at all times and only select one or two of the best candidates. I am sure there will be more than enough applications to make sure there is always an excited player ready to be accepted! The ideal situation would be to have a consistent amount of sheriffs online at all times. I think many of us agree that promoting so many sheriffs at one time quickly can cause problems to all players.

Every time a new batch of sheriffs is promoted many of the old and experienced sheriffs decide to leave for various reasons. This was one of the main problems my batch of sheriffs had(9 of us were promoted). There were so few veteran sheriffs left and so many if us new sheriffs that we had to rely purely on the handbook, and using the sheriff slack channel, and believe it or not we aren't glued to our computers all day so it was sometimes difficult to get a response. If this system were to be implemented then there would (hopefully) always be a more experienced sheriff there to assist, which would limit that amount of mess ups the new sheriffs might have.

I know that to do this it would put more pressure on 18kss, so what if the other staff, like the mods and jmods did most of the promoting work? WildWest has fully capable and competent staff, who could definitely manage the sheriff promotions. "Jmods are the lowest staff though." Yes... But they are only promoted to jmod if the senior staff believe them to have potential. If the mods and jmods managing the sheriff promotions is to much, then maybe they could just be a direct link to 18kss telling him who their top picks are. I know sheriffs already do this on the slack channel, but if it was a new rule to the system then maybe it would be taken more seriously.

You want an educational analogy (I know you answered yes)? Promoting so many sheriffs so quickly is like eating a pound of salt. Your kidneys will quite literally start dying, so how do the kidneys fix itself? It tries to process and remove the salt. Promoting so many sheriffs means that they will soon be rejected by the server and they will be... Disposed of.
