There's a lot of reasons. I think that one of the broadest and most general issues is how the process of actually making a change in a game mode that would most likely benefit a certain server isn't exactly efficient. That's what I've gathered from former and some current staff members and their opinions on how the overall administration system is run.

EDIT after a little more thought:

That, and many people in the community start to feel left out and bored when so little information is released regarding upcoming changes in certain game modes, as well as plans for the future. If more players knew about what Brawl is striving for (without breaking that developer contract), I think it would allow for both participation and constructive criticism from community members. Admins and other higher-up staff members would agree that the best form of advertisement for Brawl is word of mouth, and not true "advertisements" like paying famous people to play or putting a banner on a server list site.

So, considering the fact that word of mouth is the best way to boost a server's popularity, simply getting players excited through word of mouth is a vital part of "keeping a server alive". One way to maintain enthusiasm among players would be to provide concrete information about upcoming projects/updates on certain game modes. I am not trying to say that admins and developers should release all of their plans for the world to see, however nor am I saying that we should continue this ongoing attitude of "something big is coming"... "#soon"..."the developers are putting in lots of work and the game mode will be better than ever before"... "you have to understand the point of view of the staff team"... look, we do understand all of that stuff^. We also understand that the developers work their asses off to push out these updates. I wouldn't be able to do what they do, so I

There are hundreds of players that care about this server and want to see it revived. Hundreds of players who would be more than willing to dedicate hundreds, even a thousand hours into a new game mode, give feedback on the forums, contribute to discussions regarding changes, etc. However, how are we supposed to fully support new content with little or vague knowledge of (a) what is coming and how (insert server) 2.0 will be better than the last, or (b) an estimated time of release? Attracting players is important. Keeping them satisfied and hopeful for Brawl should be the number one priority. There is a problem when over half of the threads in the WarZ section are "why is warz dead lmao" or "how to bring back warz". To be honest, I was certain Brawl would enter a new era of popularity when Totom3 posted his War 2.0 Progress thread, and I was overjoyed when he actually updated his progress and proved that there truly was hope for the server. When I saw him change the color of the "Killstreaks" category from red to yellow, or when he changed the "New Stat Tracking System" to green (which signified completion), I felt excited and supportive of Totom as he coded War 2.0.

You see, making sure that players are satisfied with the content of the servers is vital to Brawl. One last point that I would like to elaborate on is how Brawl in particular can improve their way of maintaining an enthusiastic attitude among the player base. Now, I don't usually browse the CTF or Party forum sections, but from the portion of the forums that I watch, I do not see any threads that show what the developers are working on. I am aware that developers sign a contract that prevents them from disclosing certain information, however Totom was able to make a thread that listed literally everything that was going to be in War 2.0. Of course, it wouldn't have to be a major project like an entirely new War server, but for minor updates, I think it would be appropriate if developers did more to keep players posted. Giving more than a vague tease will help to make the current players more excited for the future of Brawl, and when you have a lot of excited players, people will spread their word of mouth to new players and introduce more people to the server. When you have players that know that Brawl is heading in a good direction, it will both encourage them to try to introduce Brawl to friends, as well as increase their chance of supporting the server financially. It would be a win-win situation, in short.

That is all I have to say after just 15-20 minutes of thought; if someone would like to address my points further or perhaps rebut them, I would be ecstatic to be introduced to a different point of view.

Brawl is not dying. Please do not spread rumors because they mislead everyone including new players. @Gehenna_Beam

He thinks it is, and if you compare it to the old amount of players, it is.
And why do you even tag gehenna? Whats the point of that?

It's an opinion thread, they are asking why they believe Brawl is dying. Wether you believe it or not, is up to you completely. But loosen up, there are way more things being said other than this about Brawl's current status.

I know, and it's quite sad. Despite this fact, Minecraft is still a popular game.
In my view Brawl isn't dying. Yes, the player count has fallen dramatically though I believe and I hope that in the future it will rise again.
Gehenna_Beam made a statement about this and this is the reason I tagged him for.

Because we don't have enough developers to support a large network. We only have 2, and recently one of them has been busy with school. As a result, we're not able to update gamemodes regularly as we have like 10 of them (including the upcoming Battle Royale).

However, I think the biggest reason why Brawl is dying is because it was never supposed to be as big as it was in the first place. Brawl is the only server in the history of the game that was advertised on the biggest server of Minecraft. Brawl's War was advertised on McPvP when it was the biggest server and as a result, it shot up in players. Since then, its also had SkydoesMinecraft advertise Party, but that was a few years ago now. We don't have as much promotion since its very hard to advertise servers without spending a lot of money.

Dude I'd like to point out that when Mcpvp joined brawl it had an average of 450~500 players max daily.

I barely see 200 nowadays max on that little counter and that's on the high end.

People move on from games, man. Planetside 2, a game with tens of thousands of players at launch, holds about 1000 players across all servers on average. It's a fact of life, no game or network will hold players forever.

Also Minecraft 's become the butt end of a lot of jokes for a lot of people. Feel free to hold out hope all you'd like, however.

Remember how popular it was? It had a solid player base. It lacked updates which made it boring.

It was popular for a week and then died out instantly just like any other new "important" gamemode brawl has attempted to release APART from its main old gamemodes.
