Any suggestions on this build? Done a ton of research and all that, think this is the build I'm gonna try and get. Anything y'all think I should change tho? https://pcpartpicker.com/user/RyGuy88228/saved/KG2nQ7
In the future am probably going to invest in a sound card for Music Production. All I'll probably do on it is Medium level games like Overwatch, Video editing and recording, and music production.
    Edit: $1200 max budget

Looks like it's under your budget already, but if you want to save ~$50 on purchasing a Windows 10 key, there's a website called Kinguin where they have Windows 10 keys for $30 dollars or so. It's basically a list of a lot of third party sellers. I know it sounds too good to be true, so you are able to buy a thing for a few extra bucks that lets you refund if the key becomes invalid or if it's not a real key.

Not meant to be an advertisement, just a way to save $$ on an otherwise expensive OS. I am using a Windows 10 key that I bought from the site right now.

Well if you're going into music production I've got a bunch of suggestions for sound cards, work as a sound engineer so ye. I used a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 for a few years and had very good luck with it, sold that though a FireWire 800 interface for my PreSonus StudioLive 32.4.2AI console. In terms of mics, I have had really good luck with most condenser mics made by AudioTechnica, the AT2035 was one I've used and the tone is quite good for it's price. If you want great quality the Blue BlueBird is great as well. Rode NT1 isn't bad, but it's a little over priced. If you do have 1 grand for a microphone, buy a Neumann u87. The industry standard for recording.

Or just use the subreddit /r/microsoftsoftwareswap.
You should not get an OEM license of Windows because it is tied to your motherboard, which means that if you ever should change your motherboard you would have to buy it again.

Hello there, just gonna throw my two cents in there since I'm basically in the same process too atm.

As you said you did a ton of research I'm almost a bit afraid to give any advice on topics which might've been thought of already.

    • As for the soundcard, definitely go external (as you probably intended to do anyway)
    • Personally I'd double the SSD storage since loading large sampler libraries like Kontakt is definitely much much faster on an SSD and because my windows partition (C: without users) is atm 250GB and I don't even have Kontakt (respectively komplete or something similar) installed (but plan to in the further future which would be about 150GB) but I'm already above 50% usage
    • I'd also double the HDD storage since it isn't really that expensive to double it and you might be happy if you're able to save a few more recorded videos
    • I don't know if you want to record vocals or something similar or if the loudness of your build matters but I'd check that too and maybe to switch to another case since you don't really switch cases as much as the other stuff
    • Also, kinda relating to my previous point, maybe go for 400W or 450W so that you don't need to buy a new power supply when/if you upgrade to better components
Yes I know, the biggest problem with my points is $$$, but maybe spending more on the components you probably won't change anytime soon(tm like 6+ years) will save you $$$ in the future.

just my thoughts, I'm no expert or anything.

Get a 500w power supply at least, even though the components on the list can handle the lower wattage PSU. For upgrading in the future, you would most likely need a 500w PSU or higher depending on what you are upgrading and etc. So get a 500w PSU now so you don't need to buy it later.

Nice build, although I'd go with a better graphics card and maybe a Corsair/NZXT case. You might just be going cheap but I reckon it's better in the long run

his budget is $1200 and his current build almost meets the budget so I don't think he can buy a better graphics card. He has a decent one in that current build, at least for his purpose.

At the moment, this looks like the best graphics card that he can afford atm since his budget is $1200 and he has almost reached that. It would be difficult to purchase a better one because of the prices of the graphics card lately. They have been increasing due to bitcoin mining. However, a few months later the prices should drop back to how it was a month or two ago.

Imo I really wouldn't get windows 10 but rather windows 7 or 8 but then again, that's your choice :stuck_out_tongue:
And yes, if you're patient enough, their prices might drop low enough to spare you some change lol
Although, I think getting a 970+ will give you a fair amount of FPS while running Minecraft (at 200-500+ for me) and if you're doing some editing. Getting a 1060 is good, but will you really need it that much? ;o

He did state that he will be playing overwatch which is a much more intense game than Minecraft. 1060 is the sweet spot for Overwatch as it doesn't require a beefy CPU or more powerful GPU. As for video editing, it will rely more on the CPU and the CPU that he has put in the build is an i5-7600k which is one of the top tier i5's I think. Therefore, he would be able to video edit decently. In the future, he could upgrade to an i7 to maximise the performance while video editing, but I would say he has a decent build at the moment. As for Windows 10, he can buy cheaper Windows 10 keys from a different legitmate place. A place that I bought my Windows 10 key from was Kinguin.net for about £20 which is a very good deal and it is much cheaper buying a Windows 10 key from here. You may think that this site is not a legitmate place and they could scam you, but you are wrong. If you don't believe me, you can search up tech YouTubers about buying a cheap windows 10 key and they have recommended kinguin.net. You can buy a Windows 10 Pro key from https://www.kinguin.net/category/19429/windows-10-professional-oem-key/ for £25 (rounded up).
