I never got why it's either black or gold... It's more like bronze.

It is really white and gold. It is the surrounding light that tricks your eyes into perceiving it as blue and black. Color is different wave lengths of light. Purple is at the lower end of the spectrum while red is at the higher end. This meme is dead though :v.

 

Surrounding light affects our perception of color because when we're looking at objects in darker areas our brain lightens up the object we're looking at to make it more visible. For example, a dark gray object in a shadow would be hard to see, but the reason we see it more clearly is because our brains lightens the image. This was very useful our primates hunted to survive.

I don't really get where you get the white. It would make sense if the blue would seem a little darker by itself, because the gold/bronze is very dark, thus making the blue look lighter.

But anyway, the point with this viral dress thing was (if I remember correctly) that it was just a difference in humans' color perception.

it's black and blue proved by the actual dress itself. it's really weird because i saw blue black for a while at first, then white gold, and back to blue black >_>
