First of all, I apologize if a similar suggestion has already been posted. I did a quick search for "Lobby PvP" and didn't find anything sounding like this when I started looking through the list of results. I might've overlooked something though...?

In "Lobby", the PvP mode is fun, and funny. Currently, if someone wants to battle in Lobby, they can switch to that mode and seek out others who are also in that mode and duke it out. The problem is that when a battle is started, either player can switch out of PvP mode at any time if they lose their nerve and think they'll lose the fight (or they can switch out of PvP immediately after attacking someone just to troll them). Sure, it's harmless fun, but some may like this concept better to put a bit more of a lock down on PvP mode:

Things that would change if implemented:
    - Any player who registers a hit against another player using the PvP sword would be FORCED TO STAY IN PVP MODE for a minimum of some designated "PvP lock timer" (for example: 10 seconds).
    - Any player who is using the PvP sword will KEEP RESETTING their individual PvP lock timer with each hit that registers.
    - Any player locked in PvP mode is unable to switch out of PvP mode until the PvP lock timer runs out (no matter what rank they are by the way - although if MS/Mojang permits it, maybe higher ranks can be offered a shorter PvP lock timer as a minor perk).
    - When the PvP lock timer runs out, the player remains in PvP mode but has the ability to switch out of PvP mode whether they're out of combat or currently being attacked - as long as they do not register any hit against any other player during combat (because that would again reset their PvP lock timer).
    - The PvP lock timer can be displayed as the experience bar, gradually increasing (or decreasing), and each registered hit against another player immediately resets it as mentioned above. When enough time passes to expire the PvP lock timer, then the bar either disappears or remains looking the normal way (whatever is the default appearance when currently switching into and out of PvP mode in Lobby).

Things that would remain unchanged if implemented:
    - Players can switch into and out of PvP mode with no delays as normal as long as they do not hit anyone else.
    - Players who are still cowards or who suddenly discover that they're up against someone using a hack who hasn't been caught yet can still avoid being defeated in Lobby by logging out.

Multiplayer games like World of Warcraft employ a system like this on "non-PvP" servers to enforce that players learn to think first about whether or not they REALLY want to attack someone and open themselves up to the consequences.
