Why exactly can't we have wool?

So uhh... @NomNuggetNom why was it changed again? I think I missed it somwhere in this thread.. Or.. any thread anywhere?

Seems to me like you just added it. I havent heard of any Mods saying they wanted ir before hand, any players, nore any other staff or the owner. (If im wrong please step in) So you just added somthing to CTF? The community hates it and you refuse to remove it without any reason for ether? (Again if you have one fill me in)

It looks more professional and modern in CTF than wool. That's the reason why Nom added it. The reason he won't remove it is because he (and other people such as I) believe the community is just acting stubborn to one small change.

The coders have added things to the other servers without the community's consent. That's how the coders work. Sure, they listen to community suggestions, but what I'm saying is don't expect the coders to make sure it's ok with the community before adding something.

Not arguing against you in this, just saying the complete truth.

So it was purely ascetic. So the coder have the final say in what they code here, theres no one above them?

I dont really care about the change more so the fact that it was done. I dont, or dident, see anything wronge with the old wool flag. Sure it was old, I guess, but it worked. Sure more 1.8 features make the server look new a spiffy, but personaly I dont like all the new **** thats getting added to MC. I would go back to 1.6 if I could.

I think Nom steped out of place here. CTF has always felt new to the updates with the maps. When quarts came out we had so many maps that added those, or redstone blocks. Thats usally how we kept the game feeling new. (Plus now we probable can put cool banners on maps)

Other servers may be run that way. But that may not work here. A lot of thies CTF'ers have been playing this game for around 3 years with very little change. Meaning basicly the same game. So even the smallest change will effect them. Almost all of them come up with ideas of there own for new and interesting fetures and when there over looked it dosent exactly make them happen. Even if its not there idea, just somones is ok. Plus even after the whole wave of CTFers saying we dont want too many simple changes other then to classes. This happens right off the bat, just seems like Nom dosent even care about what the community, that he was in and so attached to, thinks.

I see that it was done. So it can stay what ever, but I think this should be the warrning about changes, even little changes as to this one. Were a pretty butthurt community :3.

P.S. Not trying to argue eather, just stating how I feel. (Im probable going to stop talking about this whole situation)

Last time I'm going to bother you I promise, but what did you just say? Coders don't need to ask who they are coding for before coding a change. Now personaly I really like Nom. I promise you I do. (I was a huge Nom supporter during the time where a certain mod that is cold and squid like made a certain post the wasn't needed as he could have just brought the concerns up with Nom over Skype. And got people mad at Nom! ;-; ). But really? that's the stunt we're going to pull here. "Well the coder knows best!" Yes he does but does that mean that the community wants what's best by the coder's standards? Hopefully yes but in this case no. We as the community we speak with our wallets and our time! We play the games we like and buy kits and donate for them. Without that Nom isn't receiving income from his work (or the server isn't which ultimately leads to Nom not getting payed.) I like the look of the banners I really do and I dedicated a whole post to how to make them work! I really want them to work, but if Nom doesn't change something... I'm not going to be able to play CTF. One last parting note... you are being a bit of a prick... no offence I mean it truthfully. You are a late-comer, you aren't a main player you've never played in a match with teams you've never played with wool, and you aren't a CTFer besides maybe a self proclaimed one. You come to the CTF section of the forums and say some pretty stuck up stuff. Telling us to change our tactics. Telling US to accept things. With the crap we went through waiting with held breath for CTF to come back online don't you think we deserve I little better than a compromise at this point? You're so ignorant you probably didn't know that banners messed up the showcase match. Why. Are. You. Being. So. Brash. And. Rude???

Why is it such a big deal? Once the glitches are all ironed out and there's a fence under the banner, it'll be the same as the wool, it'll just look 10x better.

 

PMing an administrator or any staff member will get their direct attention since there are obviously more to deal with in PMs compared to threads that cover dull topics in the public forums. Barely any staff replied to this thread so a PM will get their attention the best. Or just report this thread for a false violation accusation and get even more attention :3

People could just leave like they did on mcpvp and only come back when the wool block gets put back in. Sure they're gonna think it's not going to be a big loss for them but the ctf regulars make the game fun, People want to buy classes to beat ya'lls. Without you guys, the game just isn't as fun. I pretty much leave a game and join a new one if I don't see the regulars on. They need you more than you need them.(I think this is a quote from Orange is the New Black)

I personally think that wool is better. It is a lot more reliable and also looks a lot nicer. However: if it has to stay this way, It ain't a problem. I can adjust to the change ;V no biggie.

 

Not only this, they make it impossible to block while stealing. (I get that this is a playstyle change, but it's the most important one and the one you didn't mention before the flame war.) You know what this means? Defence needs 1 (ONE) Assassin to be literally invincible. That's a problem that breaks the game so much it's just not fun anymore. IDEK how many times I've tried to steal and been assassinated since the change, but it's a ton.

 

so, I got a few reasons why the banner is worse than wool (atm)

you have to be inside the banner to pick it up (same for recovery)
you can't preform right click interactions like blocking, steaking, potting, pearling (probs because of the invisible armor stand that is holding the 'red/blue flag' tag) <- I also think there is a player at the flag when it is just the flag, but I could get used to that after a while
its hard to stand still inside the banner (because 10 people hit you from all sides)
when recovering/picking up the flag you have to wait until the banner is a block again
no pickup (not steal) delay from what Ive seen (not hard to fix probs)
flagburning, flag webbing
gets rid of your helmet
hard to hit people who are inside the banner
the radius is like, 1 block, since you can't cap or recover if you jump over the flag (from my experience)
it drops as item in some blocks so you can't pick it up

if this all gets fixed or gets a solution Im fine with it

the only problem that the wool has/had was that it was harder to see if it was dropped somewhere in the middle of the map
flagburning (if it was dropped (since it was not possible on the fence) but that barely/never happened)
and that it looked 'bad'

and yes I know the banner looks better but I still prefer gameplay over looks

 

- You can be up to 1.5 blocks away, so you don't have to be right inside it.

@AriesRam10 Although I myself wanted banners (and still like them more than wool), all of it goes through Chap. I do not just randomly decide to code whatever I please.

 

Yes, because obviously a coder didn't reply to the thread or anything. Pm is fine, but a public forum is usualyl better for topics such as these because they bring majority attention. I don't see your point whatsoever considering that ctf mods and a coder already replied. Guess the thread worked eh?

What's the point of the forums to discuss ideas if the staff doesn't look at the ideas? I can assure you multiple mods and admins have already looked at this thread and have thought about the whole wool/banner issue.

At the rest of you people. Banners were an unneeded but cool change, and tbh, it was really unnecessary, but since they've added it already, there's no point in reversing the change when they can just fix the bugs and it'll be something like it was before. You know, the banner on the fence post and then whatever.
