Idea Instantly Pick-up the Flag when Recovering

    If you recover often, you'll probably know how annoying it is to spend 10 minutes trying to kill that wallspamming soldier, only for the flag to be picked up by one of the 3 medics spam-healing them. It'd be a lot fairer for the recovery if, when you kill someone, the flag is instantly recovered.

    The only exceptions to this should be:
    • Archer headshots - it can already insta-kill anything it can see with ease if its 30 blocks away, best not have it so it can recover anything it can see
    • Dying of non-player causes - for example falling off a cliff or something like that, but if a player hit the person capping and they fall to their death, it should be recovered
    Suggested by Lucamaniax:
    The easiest fix would be to have a time period of .5- 1 second of waiting to pick up the flag carrier as a teammate

    You recover instantly, yet it takes a few seconds for the flag to be picked up again. Therefore this feature would only really be useful for archers.
    Sometimes you might not be near the flag when you kill the carrier, but rarely will you not be able to recover before another enemy picks it up.

    Yeah but only if you can actually get to the flag, when there's a ton of people around the flag carrier you'll get hit around a lot to the point that someone else can pick it up

    Also as ninja if the flag has been dropped, there's absolutely no delay on picking it up

    Recovery in the past has been instant, so, as far as I know, it will continue to be.

    It shouldn't really be instant recover but a longer pick up time and shorter recovery time so that as soon as the flag is dropped you are able to pick it up and recover faster than the other team can pick it up and hold, but hey that's just my opinion xP.

    Yeah it has been and I want it to still be instant, but its really annoying when you're unable to recover even though you killed the person who had the flag
    Problem is if there's a lot of people defending the flag carrier (which is when it is more stressful to try and recover), you'll get hit around a lot, so someone else can pick up the flag even if the pickup time is long

    The main problem is that if someone kills the flag carrier or the flag carrier kills themself to gain more health because they had no medic then it would instantly be recovered which isn't really fair on them, and sometimes a flag carrier doesn't always have the support needed and someone will kill them but might die to something like say fall damage, then if it was instantly recovered it wouldn't have gave that flag holder much of a chance to get the flag back.

    Instant restoring is a joke. Recovery would just be more easier and less challenging and can be done long range (archer) and even if it was an exception, it still is pointless. Did you ever see a well known recovery main complain about this? No. The easiest fix would be to have a time period of .5- 1 second of waiting to pick up the flag carrier as a teammate, else it's pointless. Some people actually enjoy trying to continously recover from the same person, it practices recovery in general.

    You should either
    a) git gud @ recuverin
    b) add a waiting time like in mcpvp to pick up the flag, not instantly (0.5-1 sec of waiting)

    As I mentioned, if they kill themselves or die of fall damage (unless someone hit them off a ledge which caused them to die of fall damage) then it wouldn't be recovered
    It wouldn't be less challenging as honestly this'd only make a difference when no-one on your team tries to help you but the flag carrier has a ton of defence so it'd be hard enough already

    You couldn't recover from distance as archer as headshots wouldn't instantly recover

    No I haven't seen a well known recovery main complain about it, but only listening to good, experienced players is one of the bigger reasons as to why the CTF underground failed (incase you don't know what it is as I'm pretty sure you were still a KitPvP randie when it was a thing, it was a secret group of veterans who helped come up with ideas, but didn't really work out)

    That fix would work, but IMO this'd be more effective, adding that idea to the post though

    I agree with Tom on this idea. It's really annoying to stand over the flag and not get the recover after all the hard work to kill the flag carrier. I think instant recovery is more fair

    After reading this a bit, I'm a bit confused. By instant recovery, do you mean standing on the flag will instantly recover it? Or do you mean the flag isn't dropped, and that once the carrier dies, it is sent right back to the post?

    The flag isn't dropped once the carrier dies and it is sent back to the flag post UNLESS its an archer headshot, or the flag carrier dies of something like fall damage (but if someone hits them off a ledge for example and they die of fall damage, it does recover)

    Well, in that case, I would have to disagree. I strongly disagree. Recovering is a huge part of the game, why remove it? I don't see a need to do that. Additionally, quick strikes from ninjas and assassins, are very hard to prevent and counter. However, if you have someone standing next to the flag carrier, they can kill ninjas/assassins pretty easily and pick up the flag. CTF is a team game. This change would discourage teamwork.

    Remember, CTF is a total team game and making it something else just to make it easier to solo recov (is no teamwork). If your recovery was working as a team they'd have recovered it with maybe one or two players dying.

    If you are unable to get the flag before the enemy then you don't deserve to get the recover. This makes recovery easier than it is already, cappers already have to deal with just trying to touch the flag.

    Also, in reality more than 1 person is recovering. Most of the time if you can't pick it up somebody else will.

    I'l just go with the flow. But yes, It seems a reasonable idea really.
