Technically, Atheism is a religion. A religion is a belief of something. Atheists believe that God does not exist.

Wrong. Atheism is the lack of belief in a god or gods. Atheism is a religion just like not collecting stamps is a hobby.

Also, that's a vague definition of religion. Does that make me a beiberist because I believe Justin Beiber exists?

I'm not gonna turn this into a flame war about if Atheism is a religion or not.

Where was the flame? I'm glad you're not going to flame, but there's a distinct difference between a debate and a flamewar. A lot of people seem to get the two confused on forums, sadly.

Atheism is technically a philosophy. There's nothing to worship nor is there any religious ceremonies involved.

True, I'm just saying I don't want it to evolve into one.

What's that religion called where you believe a God exists but you don't worship anything

Then don't let it evolve into one. I'm most certainly not planning on insulting anybody at all if they choose to post here. IF they're particularly irritating then I'll be really, really sarcastic, but that's drastic and a worse case scenario.

Please, if you're interested in discussing it, don't let the fear of flame stop you, 'cause I'm not going to flame, on my honour.

    Deism.

I feel that aggressively telling the poster that the thread will get overly aggressive is counter productive.
There is a difference between debate and flame, guys.

Even if it's pointless, a lot of things are pointless. Playing on the Brawl servers are pointless, breathing is pointless, eating is pointless, life is pointless. So why argue that there shouldn't be debate topics before they turn into flame? If it gets flamey then it'll get locked, but as of now I see nothing that can be considered flame.

Tenshi is here, now it's a party! Or is it? Eeh, wondering is pointless.

(I brought this up already by the way, so I win)

Yeah that IMO is the one that makes the most sense considering that you don't really have any proof of the names or number of the super beings who are there (gods). I am more atheist though.

If you cannot tell my profile picture has a megaphone so therefore I was louder and better

Also, religion is always interesting. If people didn't get so heated about petty beliefs it'd be much more welcoming to talk about it. Its hard though, explaining to people what Agnostic Deism is. My mother still isn't %100 sure if I do believe in a God but hey, why should I worry too much about divine retribution in the afterlife when there are already higher powers who can truly govern me in this life.

I also don't like how people always associate religion with whether god exists or not. Some people practice religion simply to find their inner peace and calm, not to just praise a god. Buddhism is a good example of this.

    ^ What tenshi said

Now look, as @BAWSS5 said, we had a pretty large discussion on religion. I took part of it, and stated my beliefs pretty well. I actually appreciated the large amount of counterargument to my beliefs, as it made me do some research and I learned a lot more about my faith.

So I figured I'd try to start an actual discussion here as well. I'm a member of the Mormon church. I know a lot of religions and people view our religion as a cult, view us as the religion that have 20,000 wives, view us as the religion that forces 18 year olds to go knock on their doors until they convert.

Let me start off by saying that is all wrong.

And I'll admit, I've heard some quite decent counterarguments, and a lot of them I wasn't unsure about. That's because I'm only 14, and I know I don't know everything there is to know about my church and our beliefs. But I know quite a bit.

A lot of people will ask me why I believe in the things I do, and if you asked me a few years ago, I'd probably would tell you it was because my parents brought me to church every week, and I'd heard many others testify it was true. And I eventually realized that wasn't good enough.

I believe in the religion I believe in because I have prayed, and I have received the answer that it was true, and I wouldn't deny it for anything. I've spent many hours on my own studying my doctrine - not because I was told/forced to - but because I wanted to grow my relationship with god. I've felt his presence in my life, and I know that our doctrine is true.

And that's really why I believe. Not because I was told I would go to hell if I didn't believe, not because others has said it was true, it was because I came to the knowledge personally that it was true. Yes, I believe in Christ.

And for a lot of people, what I just said isn't good enough. There are a lot of people out there who believe that they need absolute concrete evidence that a religion is true. Faith isn't good enough to them. And I'm not going to tell those people that they are going to hell, because what in the world would that do? A part of many religions is the concept of loving everyone, being kind to everyone, and respecting others beliefs. I can see a bit of where Athiests are coming from in terms of beliefs, even though I don't agree with them. Just as much as we can't prove god is real to others, they can't prove god isn't real to us. And I believe it was intended that way.

If religion was backed up by concrete evidence, that there would be no required faith, and I believe god requires us to have faith. In my religion, we believe life is a test for us. And this is all part of the test.

    And that's about it.

I mean really, there isn't much to it for me. Feel free to challenge me on my beliefs. I'll answer them to the best of my ability. But please, don't just search the internet for Mormons. Use some of the church's official websites like lds.org, or Mormon.org. I think Mormon.org would be easier to navigate if you are really interested.

    Mine's a pony. I win.

Mmhmm, it's probably my favourite debate topic because there's always something new to learn. And, well, I think it's pretty clear pointless debate is my lifeblood, so if there's a topic about religion, I'll be in it.

Agnostic deist, eh? I don't know too many of those. If I know my terms, that's the one where you believe that there could be something bigger and better but you don't know so you're really not all that bothered, right?

I don't worry at all about divine retribution in the afterlife. The devil seems like a cool guy :stuck_out_tongue:

Screw those who can govern you in this life! ANARCHY! Row row fight the powa!

    @Striker_Griffy
Fair point, but there are those under the term 'religious' to whom the arguments still apply, so it's not worth specifying every single time we point it out. For the sake of argument I'm pretty sure all parties recognize what the use of the word 'religious' means under the context, but to those who don't follow it for the sake of a god, clearly the arguments wouldn't apply.

@Dragonoids Eyy, good to see you here man! I've already debated with you, but if something comes up I'll make sure to ask, eh?

Probably the first person to ever post something religious on the internet, and it all spiraled outward from there. But if you want to get technical, it was the first person to mention religion on the 'gay marriage' post.

I just saw your post as I was scrolling down, and somehow I missed it.
I'm just going to say that you should look up 'Irony' and 'mind projection fallacy' and see how those apply to what you said here. Suffice to say that they both apply.

When i was 'Bad' I didn't really think their was a God cause i couldn't se him. Didn't have proof. Got mad at him when i had fights with my sisters.
Till one night came when i was sleeping. Woke up. But couldn't move. Couldn't breathe. And worst of all. I was yelling to de top of my lungs. And no one could here me. Looked over. Since i sleep in de living room. This person was walking passed my kitchen over and over. Like a black figure.

Then i got my grip back. And started to cry. I prayed and prayed. Got back to church.
Cause i almost died. For the past days. That same thing happen.

Intil i went to my cousins house and they said the same thing happen to Dorkas when their mom was reading something out of de bible. They said she was being 'Choked' And that Their kid Blessing saw a man at de end of her bed. Few nights passed. And their son saw de same person.
Now thats de proof i need. Im ima leave it at that.
