How in the hell do you Mage?

Make both hit and item use your mouse. If you've done that, you should work on landing all your hits. Learn how the arc of the enderpearl and snowball work so you can be accurate at a distance. Work on memorizing your hotkeys. Step backwards if you miss a few spells. Oh, and if fighting another Mage: KEEP MOVING.

 

I've got a couple of tips, but I'd be better giving you advice on Archer.

1. Don't go out and try to fight heavies as a Mage. It takes forever and doesn't always work out, especially if you're newer to the class. Pick on the squishier targets like Archer, Elf, Ninja, or even Medic. Assassins are also low armor, but keep in mind that you can't block.
2. Pick people out that are alone. You're Mage, and though some spells have nice crowd control, you're not going to last that long against a crowd of people who probably aren't in leather armor. Focus on killing single targets.
3. Don't overestimate yourself! At the end of the day, you are also a low armor class, and again, you can't block. If you need to run away tactically retreat, it's fine!
4. Learn to hotkey.
5. Alternatively, learn to scroll. One might feel better than the other, but hotkeying tends to be better in my opinion.
6. Keep in mind that you have an infinite health pool, but remember that it's not instantly available. Mages are annoying because they can heal themselves at functionally no cost. That really sucks for ranged classes that have to load and fire because they're not doing constant damage; there's plenty of time for the Mage to just regen.
7. Learn your combos. Ice-Lightning-Fire-Damage tends to be best for me, though I'm not a pro Mage, just competent, which Risa can tell you isn't that hard.
8. Don't quit! You have to find your rhythm with the class, and that'll take you making discoveries on your own, not just taking advice. c:

 

Also, don't be afraid to use Mage in weird places. EX: I'm the best regular Mage capper, which is hard to be. Try using it in places it's not supposed to be.

 

For being such a strong class overall, Mage is a bit hard to get killstreaks with. Some things I've found helpful are:

1. Keep in mind that the range of your damage spell is only 20ish blocks. If an enemy is farther away, use your ice/flame spells (aiming higher off the ground).
2. If an enemy tries to outrange you, close in. If an enemy tries to melee you, back up.
3. Use your lightning spell after your heal spell to knock back enemies (especially ninjas) who have taken the opportunity to get close to you.
4. Keep in mind: Your damage spell can 2-hit Ninjas (provided they don't block) and Ninjas can 3-hit you (provided you don't heal).
5. DO NOT go out of your way to attempt to kill an Assassin. It won't work. Assassins can take 3 hits from your damage spell, unlike Ninjas' 2.
6. Don't be afraid to take big falls if you have to, since your boots have Feather Falling I and you can instantly heal up afterwards.

For strong classes, try to use the ice spell then lightning, after they get out. Make sure to use your damage spell too, though
Ninja or assassin near you? Use the Lightning spell to knock them away! Use this if people get close to you.
multiple people? Move BACK and use the ice spell to stop one, fire to slow another down, damage for regular hits, and lightning to spread them out while dealing loads of knockback or if they get too close
Check F5 I case of sneak attacks!
Know that the fire spell refills second fastest
Detect a pattern if your opponent Is good at dodging your spells. Do they keep going left? Or zigzagging?

Seriously, that's not how you Mage. It's WAAY more complex.

I can overcomplicate Assassin too. Mage is really just keeping them at the mid range whilst maintaining your health.

 

That s if you want to random kill. But random killing with anything isn't SUPER hard.

 

Defense: Keep them at mid range while your in the flag room.
I dont play offense so I dont care.
Support: just shoot whatever is chasing the flag carrier
