Not really. Both classes get time to strategize.
However, Mage is OP at a range. We need Mage to be better in close quarters though. And less vulnerable. This in theory would come at an exchange for lessened spell effects.

I didn't say Mage was overpowered, I said it was broken. But I'll say it now: Mage is overpowered.
    As @Tenshirox said:
Of course that's in an ideal situation, you'll make mistakes and let someone get near you. But classes shouldn't be balanced by mistakes.

The real solution sadly would be to walk away and say nothing about it. Mage has been with CTF for a long time and it's not about to be removed. Some aspects of elf maybe annoying but like I say to everyone, find a way to counter the class!

The problem with Elf is that everything counters it.

oh yeah man that damage spell "cooldown" makes a huge difference

also, just for the hell of it:

Try playing something other than mage for once.

As right as you and most of the people above are, I'd just like to say: A minor tweak or nerf to mage is going to break the class beyond repair. We need a rework to give mage some offensive capabilities, otherwise the class will turn out like elf: Totally useless.

I'll respond to you when you fix all of your spelling mistakes.
Mage may have an infinite healing, but the healing has a LONG COOLDOWN!
Have you ever even played mage for once? Mage may be annoying, but it is EASY TO KILL!

Try playing mage for once. I am also a ninja main as well as a mage main. And it's funny how you complain about mage when you play soldier and chemist, 2 classes that are much more OP than mage. Mage does need a rework(and not because it is "OP"), but it is low on the rework priority list. Other classes need a rework more than mage does

bro you have to be kidding lmao i have played mage plenty of times to realize how it works, i'm not a stranger to the class. also, i don't just play soldier and chemist. i mained ninja for a long time and still play it sometimes. i also play medic when i'm capping sometimes. oh, and don't forget that i play pyro sometimes. i'm an all around player, my best are just soldier and chemist and i play that for my team most of the time (though, as stated above, i do play those classes too.)

yeah man, i just play soldier and chemist right and have no mage experience. get outta here lmao

I have to say, last week I played Mage on free day. Although I knew for a fact that I was really bad at it compared to someone who actually uses Mage (or compared to someone with actual skill, regardless of experience), I felt way too powerful nonetheless.

For some input on Elf (tbh this thread has been way too much about Mage): I have fun playing Elf, solely for the purpose of messing around and hoping for a kill. It's literally a joke to myself every time I type /elf. I'm genuinely surprised whenever I successfully deflect a headshot and kill someone who knows how to dodge an Elf deflection.

The one thing I do love about Elf is its set of abilities--I find them very creative and fun to use, and it's actually entertaining to watch the particle effects that the class creates--but the one thing it lacks is speed to get damage off. Archer is different: a Punch II bow is very effective in getting an enemy away from you, and you can knock back a target for a headshot. Elf, on the other hand, takes three full-powered shots to kill an average- to high-armored class, without them healing.
This is the unfortunate truth. I actually have no suggestions myself, but if I were a part in making the official decision, I'd love to read tons of peoples' ideas before wholeheartedly agreeing on some way to make Elf a better class.

tl;dr Mage is indeed OP (I've read every word of this thread, don't give me crap about my simple statement), Elf is indeed UP.

I have. I actually enjoy the class, but that doesn't stop me from being heavily opposed to it. And I've already stated my opinion on it's survivability, so I won't present the same argument here.

Just letting you know I'm not targeting Mage only, either. I can say without doubt that my main, Ninja, has flaws I believe influence the game negatively.

Also, we've all been respectful here so I'd ask that you keep the caps to a minimum as it shows disrespect.

Since you avoid things you can't refute:

The Elf class is terrible and is completely outclassed by Mage. I don't know why you're saying it gives time for the opponent to prepare. You can do whatever you would be doing in the middle of a fight such as steaking or potioning during the fight anyway.

You can incorrectly go on about Mage's weaknesses all you want, but the fact is you have only managed to come up with two weaknesses that are shrouded in fallacy. One of these arguments is a mute point, as the cooldowns are short for what power they give. Even then, the learning curve of timing when to use your spells is hardly difficult. If you throw a health spell just after a lightning misses you can survive substantial damage from a ninja. That's easily enough time to gain the advantage once again.

    Can I say something?
I know what it's like fighting a Mage with Elf. Usually I just retreat. I don't even try to fight them.
But when I do, I've learned how to fake a shield. You usually don't win the duel due to Mage's healing spell, but it's a good defense against Mage.

Also, it angers me every time someone says Elf is a joke and is a terrible class. Elf has SO MUCH POTENTIAL. I main Elf and I still haven't mastered it completely, Elf's skill set tops every class. Elf would be much more of a better class if you guys learned what teamwork means. I offered to shoot into the enemy's flag room to nullify a Pyro's fire. But all that's happen is that I've been dismissed as a 10 year old who talks to much in chat...

I knew before I even clicked the thread what you would have to say on the topic.

I'll tell you what, you get points for being consistent at least.

Actually, that's not true. If you remove some of the knockback from the mage's damage spell and add limited (like 5) heal pots and you'd be great.

That would force it to use other spells more often, and it reduces the high DPS + knockback and infinite healthpool down to manageable levels.

Even better is that all of that is a very simple rework.
Oh, and remove the lag-inducing particles, or at the very least make them only one colour.

I don't mean this sarcastically: My sincere apologies for calling your main class a joke. It also frustrates me when people say similar things about archer, which is my main.

I completely agree that Elf has other functions than 1v1 combat, and that if mastered it can still be a fairly lethal class. My main point, though, is that the average person who plays elf--at least at this time; not many people currently play Elf at all, let alone train with it--usually struggles to stay alive when being attacked. I have to say, though, if you don't want to OP soldier cap, Elf is a great replacement (if you get out of the flag room with your leather armor ;-; ).

The only arguments you can make are restatements of your disproven previous arguments. You can't expect people to take you seriously when you complain about peoples' grammar while all your own posts are just the previous ones with more caps and exclamation marks.
