Yes, it is very hard to use and you can't just quickly pick it up and play it successfully, but i don't think it should be removed for that reason. If someone can make it simpler but still keep the same abilities, then go right ahead, but a class shouldn't be removed just because it's hard to use. And i'm on your side about the mage thing, its a huge pain in the ass and it needs to be fixed.

Well... I think Mage and Elf are the most complicated, with all the items and special abilities, my suggestion would make it more noob-friendly. But at the same time you need skill to master these classes, not really sure on this one... make it noob friendly and more skill required at the same time? Well I'm not the guy to judge reworks that much...

I've been playing elf for a while.
the learning curve is even steeper than chemist.

    I said:
Soldier, Chemist, and Medic for that matter, are all guilty, and actually most other classes, too. But there's no way that this will ever be fixed because like I said we've been spoiled with this method of capping for years, and the amount of thought that would be needed to appropriately fix this seems to exceed what most people are willing to devote to CTF.

Gotta go against this flow cuz I honestly don't agree with half of it. I don't think mage is OP... Every class has a suitable role to play in CTF and so does mage. Its suitable role is to be the "midfield annoyance" and that's it. Mage capping is suicide unless you become an MLG chickin/cow, and if you defend, half of your spells will be blocked by your own teammates. Midfield is where the class strives, while anywhere else it either just becomes useless or really hard to use. So the only classes that should be having a problem against mage are those that move right through midfield without any effect or perk to let them passively avoid the mage (in order to take minor health casualties). These effects/perks include the wall-climbing sword, speed, invisibility, enderpearl, and wind arrows. The only class that does not have any of these effects/perks to avoid a mage is heavy. RIP heavy. That's just the class that mage counters. The other class that's similar to heavy is medic, which is once again most likely ripperino, but it has a much better chance to escape by using its webs. Archers are usually hiding in some extreme corner of the map or parkoured up some tree, but if they do encounter a targeting mage, aim well and they'll gain enough distance between the mage to either run or get a headshot.
SO... these effects/perks that all classes have (but heavy and somewhat medic) are to AVOID a mage at midfield.
With most classes, there is NO reason to kill a mage at midfield, as you will most likely die or end up with less than half your total health. Your only purpose at midfield is to cross it with losing the least amount of hearts as possible to have a better chance to cap the flag...or you're just a bloodthirsty midfield killer like me. Classes have their roles that they can suitably play, and midfield killing mages is not a role most classes can play. However, if they dare, classes like ninja and chemist could speed strafe the mage (or even run with redstone!) and kill it fast with their high DPS, though that (just as taking out an engineer turret) is quite a task on its own. Other ranged classes like archer can headshot the mage at midfield, while engineer can turret spam, and another mage could make a fun 1v1. I understand elf is a ranged class with also its shield and wind arrows, but elf is UP and can hardly do shista when it comes to killing something, especially when it's another ranged class. Nobody has 10/10 close combat, fully charged bow aim shots and the elf's shield creates just a 5 second grace period because nobody has spidey senses when it comes to foreseeing and blocking an arrow to the face. 9/10 is just luck. #BuffElf
The scenarios given just include a 1v1 at midfield with a daring class (or just a poor heavy) that's actually wanting to fight a mage. Though, some times as you find a mage, you and a teammate or two can eZ overwhelm and gang-bang it in a matter of seconds.
I understand mage is OP in 1v1 scenarios, but if you don't want to lose pointless hearts in fighting... JUST AVOID THE MAGE because most classes can do so easily (varying on the environment around of course). If you're a butthurt targeter who is not the best PvPer and chooses to be the heavy class... well GL m8.
I hope some of you see where I'm coming from. ^.^

I see where you're coming from, but there's just no way you can consider a high-damaging class with regen V half the time and 3 ways of slowing enemies down "balanced".

I have a few issues I'd like to state about mages being so called OP
•Damage spells: Damage spell Does decent damage and knockback, but still can't hold back a chemist or buffed heavy enough to stop you from dying, even if backpedaling.
•flame spell: Make pyro unable to kill a flame spelled opponent, and give it less range. Boom, solution.
•lightning spell: Lightning KB fails half of the time, but does the most damage out of any spell the mage can use.
•Ice spell: Ice spell I find useful for slowing down people when helping to capture, as Trying to capture as a mage in near to full flag rooms is suicide.
•heal spell: In most occasions, heal spells won't actually save a mage from death, as it is not instant healing, it usually fails if your below 10 Hp. Plus Knockback from players can cause it to miss you, as well as it heals other players (including enemies) as well.
•in general: The main abilitys mage have that are usable, make it useful for killing dwarves with enough brains to block assassins, and otherwise nigh impossible to stop chemists and soldiers from escaping the flag room. So mage does in fact have a purpose, although it can be used efficiently in all manners but capturing (the purpose of the game.)

If anything, nerf the damage spell by dealing one or two less hearts of damage, imo.
But honestly... "Nerf this, nerf that" so then you gotta nerf some of this too. All some classes need are slight numerical nerfs (no major game-breaking changes), but once you start nerfing everything unnecessarily, you're going to really ruin the game.
