I just wanted to establish with Brawl that using banners instead of wool is flawed in various ways. I'm sure everyone has different opinions about Brawl implanting banners into the game, and some believe that it is a reasonable/better addition to CTF. I fully understand this, but I'm also aware that some players think negatively about banners. I want to clear up that this is only about the negatives of banners and the positives of wool, so this post is slightly biased because of this and my opinion on banners being a negative addition to Capture the Flag. But enough of that, let's just get right into this.

Affects Ninja Capturing In Various Ways

Ninja is a fairly controversial class when playing offense with it because it has multiple ways of capturing which players disagree with. I think a majority of the players who prefer to play defense can agree that ghost capping is a fairly cheap method of capturing. I can see why they think of this, but I think that this is part of the game, and part of ninja. They even made it more difficult to ghost capture by adding only one Ender Pearl that is given back as soon as it lands. But again, this is my opinion. But to the point, the reason why banners are affecting ghost capping is because classes that can defend against this my not be able to see ninjas capturing this way because they cannot see them. A ninja can easily take cover behind the banner from a pyro or dwarf and get away a lot easier than with wool, because you'd be able to see ninjas because wool isn't even a block tall, whereas banners are two blocks tall, and on a lot of maps they are put on a fence post. This is being taken advantage of by a lot of ninjas, (me) and I thinks this is basically serving as a shield for ninjas.

Even somewhat fair ninja capping is difficult. Less experienced ninjas or ninjas who do not agree with ghost capping rarely ever capture with ninja now. This is because you have to move away from the flag in order to pearl away, because the banner is blocking it. This has now become even more difficult because banners are put on fence posts, making them 3 blocks tall, so you can't jump and pearl easily. As a result of this, more ninjas are resorting to ghost capping or less people are using the class.

Somewhat Difficult To Defend As Pyro

Pyro is a very balanced class in my opinion, and it has no reason to be nerfed. The problem banners are serving is that pyros are having trouble defending, which is resulting in a small nerf. The reason this is is affecting pyro is because, as stated above, ninjas can use banners as a shield when ghosting. The pyro will most likely set the ninja on fire if they are seen, but the banner is a solid block, so you can't hit people through it. Therefore, pyros will have to go around. This takes a fairly large amount of time, because ninjas are normally found about half a second before they get the flag and are then quickly ngl 359 n0scopde and insta-killed. But, half a second is too little time for a pyro to stop the ninja if they have to go around the flag. I remember this happened multiple times to @hallopiu when I was trying to capture as ninja. He still killed me. ;-;

Problems When With The Flag

A lot of players know about the importance of armor, and that even the helmet can make a difference. After stealing the flag, the banner takes place of your helmet. Since you already have flag poisoning, why make it more difficult for the flag carrier? A lot of you may think that the helmet doesn't matter, but experienced PvPers will know that helmets are useful when fighting another experienced PvPer.

One last problem with this is that the banner also blocks your F5 view, giving assassins a small advantage. Most players will angle their camera up, but you won't be able to see what's in front of you as well.​

 

This has already been discussed and Banners are staying, using Ghost Capping and Pyro as a reason to revert is far from a good idea either, since they are both in need of fixing.

 

Have you tried playing recovery/defense with banner???? because banners are instant-pickup by teammates when it is dropped, this means unless there are no teammates around the previously-dead flag carrier the flag will not stay on the ground to be recovered, just makes the game a pain in the ass to play because of this stupid BS feature of banners. Not sure if this is just a mistake when coding pickup time, or this came with banners but seriously fix because it's affecting both sides of def and off.

Bring wool fountains back to fix helmet loss. Oh a dupe discussion, pls disregard everything nothing matters anymore lol

 

Tbh, wearing wool as a helmet is more realistic than stabbing a banner into your head.
The flag as a block can be a banner and the flag as a helmet can be wool.
