    Hey CTFers!

Dwarf is a nice class if you fancy tanky gameplay and basically sitting in a flag room for the rest of the game. It could have much more potential if it was not limited to pure defense, so this is a proposal as to how a dwarf rework could look like. Keep in mind that similar to the engineer rework this is nothing final, this is a thread to get your opinions and what is good or could be changed.

    Dwarf
    Armor:
    • Same as current dwarf
    [IMG]
    Hotbar:
    • Diamond sword (unenchanted)
    • 2 - 3 Steak
    • Minecart / Minecart with furnace [Shield]
    • Additional: Gold ingot, gold axe
    • Additional: Diamond, diamond axe
    • Compass & class selector
    Passive Effects:
    • Slowness II when shield is activated.

    Abilities:

    Diamond sword:
Main weapon. Regular damage, no levelling/enchantments by crouching anymore.

    Shield:
⤷ Activate shield = Resistance III and Slowness II (current dwarf slowness). Activating by right clicking, you can still switch to your sword. Minecart turns into Minecart with furnace to indicate it being activated. Shield lasts until clicked again. Slowness II will remain for 1 ½ seconds after shield is deactivated.

    Ingot system:
⤷ Each successful hit of a dwarf to an enemy gains him 1 golden ingot.
⤷ Right click the golden ingots = 20 golden ingots are removed from inventory and a golden axe is added, enchanted with Knockback IV.
⤷ Axe deals 5 hearts true damage to opponent. Instantly breaks after one use.

⤷ Every 5 hits, a successful hit earns a diamond instead of a golden ingot.
⤷ Right click diamond to reduce diamond count by 20, gains diamond axe.
⤷ Diamond axe enchanted with Knockback IV and Fire aspect I. Deals 7.5 hearts of true damage. Also breaks after one use.

Example for dwarf hotbar with activated shield. The gold was smelted into an axe.

Example for dwarf hotbar with diamonds and diamond axe.

    Additional points:
⤷ Axes stack in your hotbar. You could have 60 golden ingots, right click them three times and get three stacked axes.
⤷ Upon smelting ingots or diamonds to axes, anvil sound is played. XP bar fills up in the course of a second, so smelting takes one second per axe.
⤷ Upon using an axe, tool breaking sound is played.
⤷ Maximum amount of gold ingots / diamonds is one stack, so max. 3 axes of each kind at once.

What this does is basically making dwarf viable across the map, not only the flag room. The slowness is removed so it can actually participate in fights on the battleground. It can use the axes strategically, or try to mow down the toughest enemies in the enemy flag room. The shield gives it resistance at the cost of it's mobility, so it can be a good flag guardian as well. Due to the fact it needs ingots/diamonds to create powerful one-use weapons, it needs to participate in the midfield and get out of that camping zone.

The exact tiers of effects need further testing of course, this is a rough guide on how the dwarf could work. With a shield, it has 1.9 potential, the whole battleaxe-ingot smelting system is to give dwarf a more dwarven feeling to it, instead of just adding some enchants to a class. Yes, the pyro rework is more important, but putting together a rework for that is a little more difficult as it is dependent on a few other classes. It is still being done though.

I think this idea is too complicated. Explaining this to a new player in-game would be almost impossible. A new player who goes dwarf on freeday would be really confused, I think. That's the current problem with Elf, too. And this idea doesn't fully remove snowballing that much, because you could have enough axes to instakill someone with.

Yes, but it's a way to balance it if it gets too strong. In this rework it is as fast as any other player.

It sounds complicated to the average player but nonetheless I like it.

Of course, it's pretty complex. But it would add so much more to the gameplay than current dwarf :C

Dwarf right now: Camping at flag, hoping not to be assassinated and eventually instakilling everything that comes by
Dwarf with this rework: Still leveling class, but more active, spread more around the map, also good for precision killing (diamond axe) is the way I see it. Then again, I didn't really bother reading. Sorry :C

this gives him the idea to look up how to do this kit and get him or her interested in the kit and possibly buy it. Sure they may confused at the moment, but when you're confused, you get more interested in what you're learning

@NomNuggetNom was spot on as to what I was thinking. Seeing Elf, this rework, and reworks in general, I've noticed that it seems to be a tactic to over-complicate a class to capture the attention of the player. This sounds alright, except it usually leads to inefficient gameplay. And once the user gets used to the complicated aspects of the class that was originally drawing them in, it gets boring. This happened to me with Chemist, being a relatively complex class.

Back to the tactic of over-complicating a class: this is usually unnecessary. Simple classes flow a lot better, are almost always the most efficient, and most fun in the long run. It just relies on good design.

Building a class is almost like writing a story. Look at Pyro. Everything it has is relevant to the "plot." In this case the plot is the way the class plays. As I was reading through this Dwarf idea, I got to the shield. I thought to myself "Ok, this is quite common in Dwarf ideas, I wonder what it will have to do with further mechanics." then I read on... the Shield was never mentioned again. It's like it was thrown in there to buff it up a little, like Elf and the Water element, or something.

    Anyway, that's all I've got.

I like this idea, +1 for sure! Maybe as said, a bit hard to understand for new players.

November: Yes, it will be able to sprint.

A problem I see with this is the fact that with only three steaks, it will be extremely hard to get 100 hits (enough for 20 diamonds) off on players prior to dying. Also, I think this is a bit over complicated.

    sounds cool @Nohox
    some "problems" (my opinion)
-I thought that the dwarf is more a defence class so it would change the gameplay
-i think 20 is a little bit to much 15 would be better

btw this is one of the dwarfreworks which i like most (i usually dont like the most reworks for dwarf cause the dwarf wouldnt be so good and the dwarf is easy kill and it would ruin the class)

Although I did like the old dwarf, Any Idea from Nohox is a good one for me, I like sprinting, and with this, a "dwarf cap" Wouldn't cause multiple XD's in chat. +1

Not a fan of this idea at all, 20 hits is for a small amount of true damage and high knockback doesn't really help anything. You need 100 hits for any substantial damage and that's extremely unlikely, the Dwarf may have decent bulk w/ the shield but using the shield means you aren't going to be hitting anybody to benefit out of it.

The shield is rather just put into the rework because it can be, it doesn't really provide fun gameplay and just extends the dwarfs life which doesnt really help it if it can't escape whatever is attacking it.

Compared to Heavy, this Dwarf rework has nothing worth working for as 20 hits in one life is too expectant of a class that has no instakills protection (Which would further imbalance instakills and make Dwarf even less fun to play).
