I'm gonna go on a limb here and say Whiteout, Blackout and Forest of Rivals are probably the best rated maps.
The thing the three have in common is how horizontal these maps are, the areas are easy to access, and don't make Soldier neither overpowered nor underpowered.
If you are a map builder or intend to be one, to prevent the fiasco of maps like Slate and Soul:
    • make the areas easily accessible with slabs/stairs in abundance;
    • no Castle-y maps (to those who don't remember or played Castle, it was two castles with flat land between making Archer overpowered and Soldier underpowered), e.g. Medieval Siege and Castle Village I/II
    • max height of 15-20 blocks.

Hm, great tips, but I do agree with the theme of Castles being repetitive, and flat land is just bad...

I agree with blackout but whiteout just has too much detail that it gets in the way of game-play and Forest of Rival's tree spam is a tired concept that's op for soldiers while annoying for everyone else.

    Hey MineIsTheFury!
I'm the Map Maker of Soul, Subzero, and Divergent Strike :l

So to being, I would like to politely counter your argument:

    • Slate is a really good map, built by one of very own- Birdgirl. It poses no problems in the CTF community, and so far, has no negative feedback.
    • Soul, was much worse when it was first released. Since then, Soul has been updated- and has been receiving positive results since then. Both Slate and Soul use Stairs and Slabs accordingly- not just exclusive to sponges.
    • Whiteout and Blackout have positive ratings- but aren't considered the best.
    • Forest of Rivals (V2) has more of a neutral rating in the rotation.
If you want to make arguments about the maps, I'd rather you have factual evidence to back it up.
I like that you have provided input on how CTF maps should be regulated, but I don't think they really contribute much to CTF map making.

The Official Guide(s) to CTF Map making be found Here and Here.

If a pyro manages to ignite the solider, they can spam climb over the trees and run to the centre pool of water which makes recovering even more annoying.

    Slate:
It's kind of subpar. I'm not the best at analyzing maps, so I'll call in @Lugia_ who is an expert reviewer and map maker to comment.
    Soul:
It's been improved, but still on the lower-grade end of maps due to it still being quite but not extremely soldier OP and ninja OP.
    Agreed on the rest.

Blackout is a great map, I agree with you on that. I, personally, like Forest of Rivals. Whiteout though, no. It's too laggy. I really enjoy Slate too.

As one of the creators of both Castle Villages, I think it's time for me to step in and defend not only the maps but myself.

I will admit, the original Castle Village was quite a mess and overall wasn't a good map. However, calling out all castle maps is truly unfair. In my opinion, Castle Village II is actually quite enjoyable due to the underground passage, the improved flag room, more structures to prevent Archer opness, and other neat features that improves gameplay drastically.

Not every castle map is the map Castle, that's just not fair at all to make a statement like that. Castle Village and Medieval Siege are nothing like the map Castle except that they both have a castle as the main building.

Blackout is still the best. It's like Dust 2 of cs:go. It's fun to play, I mean every map is "good" and lot's of people have different maps (mostly map creators) but Blackout and Whiteout(I suppose) and another favorite of mine: Desert Strike III are just good maps to kill wimps with archer.

BTW Unholy Faith is impossible to get the flag from.
