Hey guys! I am Kyogre95, a longtime player of CTF back in MCPvP. I was bored and lurking around here, so why not make my first post?

Here are my opinions on the classes.

    Heavy
    – imo the most underrated class

    · Heavies destroy everything in close combat except pyros and high level dwarves. Tight spaces are your friends, because they make beating up your enemies much easier.

    · Offensively, heavies are tanks. They take hits for the rest of the squad, smash the squishier defenders, and knock back everything else. Don’t take the flag unless you are prepared to play “Protect the medic”. Heavy carriers die the fastest to flag poisoning and need outside health recovery at all times, not to mention they are very susceptible to pyros.

    · Defensively, heavies have about the same role as dwarves. As in, kill everything that the pyro can’t and stare at the flag. However, they have the speed that dwarves don’t have, making it easier to trap flag carriers. Once the carrier is out, however, heavies can’t really do much.

    · Buffed heavies are one of the scariest things on CTF

    Soldier – the capping class

    · Not too much use outside of capping. Sometimes it is used to wear down opposing soldier flag carriers or harass archers, but that’s about it. Possesses the second best PvP stats in the game.

    · Offensively, soldiers are flag carriers. The wall climb ability allows it to get to the flag at unique angles (letting it sneak past a few defenders), and very good health/armor/evasion allows it to live very long with the flag.

    · Defensively, soldiers are completely outclassed by heavies and dwarves. They do have mobility that allows it to give chase after the flag carrier is out, and keep him/her on the move, but its average damage output probably won’t result in a kill if the carrier has a medic.

    · Random Trivia: Back then, soldiers didn’t take flag damage. Games lasted forever because soldiers didn’t need constant medic.

Archer – the kill streak/ KDR class

    · You want to have a long kill streak? Fancy a high KDR? Find a hole somewhere with good visibility and fire away!

    · Find yourself facing a bunch of heavies/soldiers/people charging at you? Knock ‘em back and headshot them!

    · If you die a lot as archer, you’re doing it wrong

    · Offensively, you can’t do much unless the flag room is open to the world. But if it is, then make sure the flag room is pyro and dwarf free.

    · Defensively, archers are mostly there to recover. Snipe the carrier or knock him/her into the void – doesn’t matter. It’s not like you’ll get the recovery stat anyway, right?

    Medic – the team player

    · A medic makes a squad 2-3x better. Which means the opposing team will target you. Which means you have to remember to eat steak, and your teammates have to protect you. However, the 6 steaks and permanent regeneration certainly helps your longevity.

    · Offensively, medics were meant to be a support class. They heal and restore players’ items, and generally make capping a lot easier and recovering a lot harder. However, due to the fact that medics are very hard to instakill and that they can passively heal off flag poison, they have become one of the more reliable flag carriers. Not to mention that they have webs that really slow down pursuers.

    · Defensively, medics are just there to heal and slow down attackers using the web. Medics generally can’t hold a flag room on their own due to their rather mediocre PvP stats.

    · Medic is not a hardcore PvP class. I mean, sure, you can probably kill off noob soldiers or whittle away a heavy’s health, but seriously, just avoid fights if you can.

    · Be a good medic and everyone will love you.

Engineer – the lazy (and often targeted) team player

    · Congratulations! You’ve become your opponents’ most hated player! Stick a lazy turret up your opponent’s a**, set up a teleporter, and bring the fight to their base! Then, prepare to fight off hordes of pissed off heavies as enemy archers attempt to headshot you! What fun!

    · Avoid open spaces. 90% of the time, an established engineer will die from a headshot.

    · Don’t be lazy. Turrets only shoot one person at a time, and while it’s distracted, a ninja might pop up and annihilate you.

    · There really isn’t much difference between offensive and defensive engineers in terms of role in the game. They both bring teammates to the respective positions (Offensive engies bring people on offense, defensive engies bring people to defense), they both get a strong hold on the area they are at, and they both support teammates. They both also suck at PvP.

    · Engineers are more susceptible to assassinations. Having the sword out disables auto-fire from the turret, so engineers can’t parry all the time. Also, the pickaxe is a much better weapon than the wooden sword.

Necromancer – the Magikarp of CTF

    · Once one of the more broken CTF classes, necro nowadays is the most useless class in the game. The mobs it spawns almost never kill/damage anything, and it only gains experience from mob kills, so it is essentially just a completely vanilla class with bad armor and weapons. Like seriously, don’t buy it.

    · Random Trivia: The kill streak record is set by a necro back when it was very OP (the mobs snowballed very quickly). I believe it was in the hundreds (400+?), and I think it was achieved by using various glitches (mobs can hit people in spawn, and item reset allowed necros to place multiple spawners).

Ninja – the hit and run class

    · The stealthiest class in CTF, ninjas are used to ambush opponents and sneak past defenders. They also have the highest damage output in the game. However, they are also one of the worst classes in the game in terms of damage vs health, thanks to its frailness. If a ninja tries to fight anyone who knows how to steak head on, he/she will most likely lose. So yeah, if you are going to fight, then fight dirty (As in backstab to crap out of them), or target the squishy ones.

    · The flash bomb is really effective against ranged classes. The nausea effect can really mess up their aim.

    · Offensively, a team ninja is usually going to be support. It kills pyros(or in the worst case uses up the exploding shot), ninjas, and assassins really quickly and generally act as a distraction. The flash bombs carry slowness with it, which can help with pursuers. A lone ninja, however, can cap very fast using the enderpearl and its general speed. Using invisibility, ninjas can sneak to the flag and wait for the right opportunity to steal. Or it can ghost cap, using a well-timed enderpearl.

    · Defensively, ninjas are pursuers and recover-ers. Its speed, stealth, and high damage output makes it ideal for ambushing flag carriers.

    Assassin – the glass cannon

    · This class makes people love you and shows off your mad PvP skills.

    · Faking is a very valuable asset to this class. Pretending to use the assassinate, baiting the opponent to stop parrying, then attacking is what goes for “highly skilled” for this class.

    · Chances are, if you are using this class offensively, you are using it to assassinate a dwarf. If the dwarf blocks you are screwed because the defenders will swarm you.

    · Defensively, assassins best used to pursue moving carriers. Because assassins carry the fear factor, carriers will often stop and try to parry you, letting your teammates catch up (or you can just straight up kill the carrier if he/she is a noob). However, this will only work if the carrier is alone, as opposing teammates will most likely prevent you from getting close.

    · Yes I’m salty

Pyro – the reason why heavy is never used

    · Pyros are the reason why medics are so good as flag carriers and why heavies are extinct.

    · Defensively, pyros are one of the best (and broken) classes. They can instakill almost every class and axe the ones they can’t (diamond axe has same damage as iron sword). As long as a pyro can handle ninjas and assassins, he/she will last a very long time.

    · Offensively, they are crap. It might kill one or two heavies, but it also has to face ninjas, assassins, and classes it needs to PvP. Pyros have a decent health pool, but they won’t last, especially when everyone targets them.

    Dwarves – the flag keeper

    · Sit in the flag room and stare at the flag. Kill a lot of ninjas and medics. Rage when an assassin catches you. Protip – don’t use dwarves in flag rooms that are open to the outside, unless you want to get shot.

    · Random Trivia: Dwarves can apparently absorb headshots by blocking (though I’ve never seen it before). It will, however, lose a crap ton of exp.

    Chemist – the skill class

    · Right, now before I begin, I would like to say that I never use chemist and I suck at it. So my thoughts might not be accurate.

    · Chemists have the highest potential out of any class in CTF. With strength and speed, they get the offensive capabilities of ninjas. With fire resistance and regeneration, they become pseudo-medics (in that it can still be instakilled by pyros). They have the biggest health pool in the game. The damage and poison potions lets it dismantle high-armor classes. All-in-all, chemist is the best class in CTF right now. However, it takes a lot of skill to use optimally.

    · Defensively, chemists are used mainly for damage output and to check for ninjas (using poison potions). They can also buff and heal other defenders. Chemists can give carriers slowness and poison to slow them down, and give other pursuers speed and strength.

    · Offensively, chemists are able to rush past defenders to the flag and shrug off damage with its s*** ton of healing potions. Since it has speed and fire resistance, it can outrun most of defenders, kill the ninjas and assassins that catch up, and cap with ease.

    · Chemist is better at PvP in open locations, since when it heals it needs to be away from its attacker.

    · Buffs plz

Mage – the *pew pew* class

    · One of the more simple ranged classes. Its main objective is to not get hit.

    · Defensively, the mage’s main role is to kill invisible ninjas. Its lightning can knock attackers away from the flag, and the freeze and fire spell can slow flag carriers.

    · Offensively, mages are support. It heals flag carriers, and lightning spells/kills anyone too close. Mages are especially useful against dwarves.

    · Random Trivia: Using all of its spells at once (I think), mages used to be able to one shot even heavies. Don’t ask me how, because I’ve never tried to do it.

    Elf – the support mage

    · I’ve literally chose this class once. I’ll try my best guys.

    · Elves are rather unique in that it has a ton of niches in CTF. However, despite its versatility, a lot of other classes are better at the job than elves are.

    · The pure element is a nice, but it is outclassed in the close range by the mage, and long range by the archer.

    · The earth element can slow down and deal some damage, but the slowness effect is very short, and is outclassed by the medic’s web, the mage’s freeze, and burning effects from the mage’s fire spell and pyro’s explosive shot.

    · The water element shuts down pyros and gives resistance, but medics are immune to flames, can heal off fire damage, and are generally better than the water element.

    · The wind element imo is better than the soldier’s wall climb, because of its horizontal movement and independence from walls, but it doesn’t last forever.

    · The one truly unique ability of elves is the reflection ability, which allows it to annoy ranged classes and cross archer-infested zones without difficulty.

Fashionista – the best class of all

    · Da best strategy is 2 walk into enemy base like you play around and steel flag. Use fire works for ultimate lag switch. Dis OPness is why it is premium.

    · Also, why doesn’t the work bench work.

That moment when you play archer and a noob solider thinks spamming climb works.

oh I loove when people say this...

many of the top assassins (@Snowleak14 is a good example) are also very good at pvp...

great assassins dont just use their assassinate, they also know how to pvp properly and can beat their opponent by melee as well. (while just having golden boots and an iron sword. yeah.)

Actually Fashionista can troll really hard. Taking off everything but the boots and dying those yellow for example eill scare players into parrying and let you get some first hits. Make all your armor purple/dark red, so people will dispise you. And possibly call hax.
Finally, make your chestplate and leggings green for some elven fun.

Yes, PvP is a very important part of assassin. When I play it, I try to kill enemies with PvP before using the insta.

Totally agree with your chemist points. The only problem with chemist is its weak armor, so try to be a dominating pvp'er, and ignore large groups if you can.

Your point on feinting the assassinate in order to bait a block is also really good. I just want to add that, not everybody who plays CTF knows to block assassins, especially noobs. This means that ironically, you could have lost a kill by feinting rather than straight up going for the kill because they will straight up attack you instead of block first. If you know for certain that whoever you are chasing is aware of parrying, bait them by all means.

I agree. Assassins take skill. If you see a pro player, just circle around them until they get dizzy or let their guard down.

I have saved an engine once from being barraged with head shots, I put up my elf shield, and then I got 10 head shots, and reflect 5 pyro arrows.

So true although you left out the bit where you break out your Dwarven baritone of "Diggy Diggy Hole" every few minutes :stuck_out_tongue:

I have done this before but I got pretty bummed when I got headshot directly afterwards
