    He's proposing elevating the nametag of the entity far higher or lower than the actual entity, I couldn't do this on the vanilla end of the game so I couldn't do it myself to prove it possible.

    Perhaps because it's not possible for banners to be coded with the correct pickup radius or not being able to block hits, it's time that you re-added wool, which functions correctly and doesn't look big and weird when on someone's head. This would improve both gameplay and aesthetics.

    If this is coming off as rude, I'm sorry, I was going for blunt.

    bcuz it looks more "professional!!11!11!" Even though the gameplay is crap.

    Could we like. . . bring wool back, but when you pick it up it goes to banner :LLL I like how it's easier to see, but instapickups I dont like and the hit box I don't like.

    Or just bring wool back.

    I believe the old mcpvp hub (or atleast some hub) had horses spawned 100 blocks above the surface, with their nametags set lower than the actual horse entity. I'm not sure if this gets rid of the hitbox but it seems like it should.

    There's a bukkit plugin called Holographic, that sets nametags midair the same as they are right now, but without the armor stand. IDK how they did it, but as far as I know there were no hitboxes? There are several plugins like it now, I'm sure one has open source code you can look at to see how it works.
