Why does archer have the third strongest armor, when it's a ranged class?

    Why should archer have such strong armor when it's a class that isn't intended or used as a close range class?
    Shouldn't elf and archer switch armors since elf is more of a close range fighter?

    I don't think an archer's armor is that strong. I can kill them fairly quickly in close combat when I play heavy or engineer. Although, a heavy's sword deal 7 damage, an engineer's pickaxe deals 6.5 damage. Which is pretty strong.

    Actually, soldier has the third strongest armor, behind dwarf and heavy.

    Because it actually lends the class a small amount of survival in a fight. Elves also can run from a fight to re-engage, so if an archer gets hit it can survive.

    What it shouldn't have is 4 steaks. Maybe 2.

    Necro, dwarf, heavy, and soldier have better.
    But I agree with elf having more armor, would be very nice.

    EDIT: Maybe not necro...

    Perhaps the only reason archer isn't destroyed by most classes at short range is because of its spam-able Punch 2 bow. Otherwise, it needs its armor to stay alive at least a little bit.

    I don't think archer OR elf should have the elf armor tbh >.< too weak. Archer needs something more than just an armor nerf atm :/ less armor would just be free kills for ninja atm imo.

    The world may never know how you got the number 3. Just looking at these actual stats you can see that archer is 5th on armor.


    1.) Heavy = 20

    2.) Dwarf = 17

    3.) Soldier = 15

    4.) Necro = 14

    5.) Archer = 12

    6.) Medic = 11

    7.) Chemist = 10

    8.) Engineer = 9

    9.) Pyro = 7

    10.) Mage = 6

    11.) Assassin = 1

    12.) Ninja = 0

    But armor is not what actually counts here. After applying total steaks with armor we can get a more manageable number that is equivalent to the total ammounts of hearts it'd take to kill you. NOTE: The regen is not included in the first number, as most regens are infinite. Regen pots count as general regen.
    1.) Chemist = 141.5 hearts total + regen

    2.) Heavy = 110 hearts total

    3.) Medic = 82 hearts total + regen

    4.) Soldier = 77.5 hearts total

    5.) Necro = 77 hearts total

    6.) Dwarf = 68.5 hearts total

    7.) Archer = 50 hearts total

    8.) Pyro = 41.5 hearts total

    9.) Engineer = 40.5 hearts total + regen

    10.) Mage = 10 hearts total + regen

    11.) Ninja = 10 hearts total + regen

    12.) Assassin = 10 hearts total + regen


    Oh, what this? Not counting elf, archer is actually 7th on the list. Certainly not 3rd, but it's actually in the weakest half of the classes. Get your facts straight nub

    No, no! You have it all wrong! Fashionista doesn't have armour, it has super-OP Fashionable Clothing that gives it Resistance X.

    I did a strategical study on CTF classes to help get better at leading and all, I know all of the numbers.

    The same could be said for elf, since most of it's abilities need to be fully fully pulled back to be the most effective. Many classes can close in on it very quickly. So like bawss said, decrease the steaks for archer? Increase the armor for elf so that it can survive a couple of hits without needing to steak?

    That's what I want for elf as well. More armor so that you can actually tank more than 1-2 shots without having to steak


    Rework the entire class, or just a small part of it(Like the knockback II)? I wasn't really asking for a rework, I was asking for opinions on why elf has such low armor, when a class focused on long range fighting (archer) has better equipment



    That wasn't really the point I was trying to get across.. but anyways remove dwarf and necro, both classes that barely encounter archers, and it's back to #3 in total armor. As for the total health.. even if elf had twice or maybe triple the steaks, they'd still get clobbered in flagrooms and in corners by ninjas and chemists with their high dps

    just get rid of the punch two or make it only effective if the bow is fully charged and i'm happy. i personally find bowspam to be much more annoying than the instakill itself (mainly because aiming sometimes requires a little bit of skill)

    I don't understand why they should be removed from the list. I thought this was supposed to be about archer having the third strongest armor, not about what they fight regularly. In both cases, there are times when you may well fight those classes even if it's not regular. Just because they don't encounter them often doesn't mean they don't at all. In any case, I thought this was about archer having the 3rd strongest armor independent of who they're fighting, in which case we shouldn't be excluding any class. I can understand the logic for wanting to exclude them, but I thought it was supposed to be independent of whom they're fighting

    As for the total health thought, yeah, they'll take more damage because their armor is lower, but they have more steaks to regen. Provided you learn to use that health, you should be able to last longer. Different classes are played differently I guess.

    On the pure purpose of the thread, independent of roles, who the classes are fighting and whatnot, archer has the 5th strongest, not the 3rd, and that's even lower when you translate it with steak + regen to reach total Healthpool. I think it really signifies that this isn't a main way to rework archer, and maybe something else like punch 2 should be the focus of any rework done

    Did anyone know that it's almost impossible to kill a good heavy, dwarf, chemist or Medic up close with Archer without cornering them and quickdrawing?
    Fun fact: I have barely meeled any medics and made it out alive.

    BTW you can't just make Archer bows useless when it's not fully charged, it will cause a lot of confusion surrounding arches.

    I'm not saying make them useless, I'm saying make the punch II only effective when it's fully charged.
