3rd Annual CTF All-Star Match

Nope, you're not dreaming. You're not imagining things. Unless you're high because let's face kids have nothing better to do these days than to blaze the 420 with the mountain doritos and memes everywhere I don't know where this intro is going I was trying to be funny okay please don't hurt me okay thank you. ANYWAYS, most of the older members of the community will remember that every year we had an All-Star match, dating all the way back to 2013. I had the honor of organizing the last one in 2014 (It was actually my first major project as a new moderator back then), and I'm honored again to be able to host this extremely requested event. So while this event is limited to players in CTF Teams, it's still highly regarded as one of the biggest matches of the year and we do have quite a bit of new teams participating in this one that have never participated before. Now that being said, the way All-Star matches work is that majority of official CTF Teams have already been invited to participate via Skype and will submit a few players that will add up to make a massive match between some of the most well known names in the game. We're also going to be going about this a bit differently than previous years, making it more regulated and organized versus the raw chaos of previous years.

Date: Saturday, October 24th @12PM PST | 3PM EST | 7PM UTC | 8PM GMT

This year we have 12 total teams participating, and each participating team is required to submit a roster to me via forum PM or Skype that consists of 4 main players with 3 substitutes. For those of you too lazy to do the math, that means that each color team (Red/Blue) will consist of 6 participating teams and 24 players per color team, making this a 48 player match.

Now, the maps are among the most approved maps by the community in terms of overall votes. Yeah that's right, we actually do pay attention to the ./y and ./n commands . We'll be doing a best of five so make sure you people get comfortable because this is gonna be a doozy.

Round 4: Valley Of Ruin
Round 5: Opposites Collide II

Note: While yes, these maps are the top five most approved maps it's worth noting that Whiteout is actually the third most approved map but was left out since it's basically just a reskin of Blackout, and not worth playing twice. Also, maps listed above are the current ones in rotation.



Now for the rules this year, we've decided to actually add some this time! So if you were upset last year of all the Engineers don't worry you won't be seeing any of them this year. Rules are as follows:

  • No Engineers, Necros, or Dwarves
  • No medic teaming (two medics healing while in combat)
  • No ghost capping (aka premature pearing aka pearling before picking up the flag as ninja)
  • No Chemist capping
  • 2 Pyro/Medic/Assassin/Max (2 of each)
  • 3 Chemist/Archer Max (3 of each)
  • 5 Max of everything else (just to prevent massive mobs of the same class)

Final note: I really want this match to be just for fun guys. I know winning is great and all but keep in mind that this is just more than a giant co-op. It's a testament to how far our little team system has come since 2012 when we didn't even have a team server. Now we're going to have two of them, 6 refs to handle everything (and probably more later), a developer that actually listens to us and just an overall much more efficient system than we've ever had before. I really hope you guys enjoy this, and I will do everything I can to make sure it's as enjoyable as possible for you guys.
