TLDR: Soldiers have to block and crouch to prevent assassins. Crouching disables wallclimb.

So on most maps, soldier is undeniably the most annoyingly overpowered capping class, and a good soldier is essentially unkillable once they're out of the flagroom and have a medic near their base. Once the defensive pyro is distracted or killed, they can freely bunnyhop over 90% of players, and ninja is too weak to take down soldiers. Get a pair of soldiers with medics carrying the flag on both teams and everyone can forget recovery.

I find that assassin should be the ideal counter to soldier outside the flagroom: it has mobility, ignores armour, and is immune to fall damage if assassinate is used. Usually, having to block removes a flagcarrier's mobility, and therefore they are more vulnerable to headshots and multiple recoverers. Soldier, on the other hand, can wallspam away and often accidentally block assassins: the best recovery class is essentially a non-issue for soldiers.

The point I'm trying to make is that even an assassin's presence should have to make the flagcarrier more watchful, and remove mobility - which is why I'm suggesting this mechanic, in which soldiers have to block+crouch in order to block assassins, but cannot wallclimb while crouching.

This doesn't tip the tables too much for either side. Soldiers can still block assassins easily enough, but they actually have to stand there instead of wallspamming away. It would make flagcarrying as soldier more difficult, as it should be, and would make midfield recovery off a soldier somewhat easier. And it also removes accidental blocking, which is stupid.

Personally I think this is a perfect nerf: it doesn't make assassin overpowered, it just slightly decreases the flagcarrying power of soldier.

I heard that soldier counters assassin. There's no point of making assassin op. Plus it's not that hard assassinating soldiers.

I agree that soldier needs a nerf, but assassin also does not need a buff. However, the crouching disabling wallclimb is a good nerf.

This provides a nerf to soldier without removing any of its mobility and keeping it as a fun and easy to play class.

I don't think you've even read the post. Please explain to me how making soldier blocking take one extra step suddenly makes assassin OP?

And as a recovery class, I feel like assassin should counter soldier, not the other way round. With this change, soldier can still kill assassins easily.

Because it buffs assassin. And assassin is OP enough already. If assassinate was nerfed then it would be fine.

I wouldn't even call it an assassin buff, more a soldier nerf. It's still easy to block, and nerfs soldier more than buffs assassin.

Assassin's mechanics stay exactly the same.

Soldier isn't op and doesn't require a nerf. Assassin isn't op either and doesn't require nerfs either.

Could you maybe provide reasoning as to why you think a class with decent armour, damage output, health pool and unlimited vertical mobility is balanced?

Because it's armor isn't that high. It doesn't have a high damage output at all. It's health pool isnt high either and its vertical mobilit isn't unlimited because you need walls for it and most maps are flat now a day. Pyro is really vulnerable to pyro and ninja on defense and yes if it get outs of the flagroom it is good to cap with. But that's what it made for. It should be better at capping than mage and necro for example. It isn't the best for defence or killwhoring.

Please be joking. Soldier is OP because few classes can reach one. Assassin is OP because its counter is ping-based, it takes little skill, and you have no time to react.
Low armor doesn't make assassin balanced. Assassin has a very high damage output. Soldier can climb walls almost infinitely.

Soldier isn't op and I just gave a good reason why, so if you want to react to it, please dont say just

And assassin is balanced. It is probably one of the weaker classes because of it's 1 second of being really strong and then 20 seconds of being almost useless. If you can't block than that is your issue.

"good reason". The damage output is not high, but it's also not low. It doesn't need a high health pool because it has strong armor. It can climb walls infinitely.
Assassin takes no skill, it's counter is ping-based, and you have no time to react.

Another soldier can. As someone who's been soldier capping for over 4 years, the only thing that counters a capping soldier more than a recovering soldier is Pyro.

Anyways, I don't think this is needed. Assassin can easily counter over half of the mainstream capping classes - heavy, chemist and medic - it doesn't need to counter more. Perhaps if ninjas did more damage to soldier, that would be a good nerf. Or even if soldier did more damage to other soldiers.
