Complete Tropical Islands - An Islands Rework

What is your general opinion on this rework of Islands?

    The impossible was given a shot. We'll see how you guys react.

    So, I've worked with @mh__ before on a couple of maps (Festive Discovery, etc.) We were working on a rework of Divinity's Reach for such a long time and finally called the quits on it since we are the worst on staying on task and Divinity's Reach is simply a pain in the ass to rework. I swear, we would put down a couple of blocks then just talk for an hour until we had to go.

    You already know that as soon as we got the copy of Islands **** changed fast.

    We were on task for once! This map got done in approximately a week, more or less. We made changed the following things to enhance gameplay:
    • Changed the flag room
    • Changed the spawn aesthetics
    • Reduced the amount of lily pads though they are still effective
    • Added bridges with coverage from Archers
    • Added boats and what-not to help get around
    • Other aesthetic changes

    I like it! Looks fun and wide open enough that it isn't too close quarters orientated!

    It looks nice visually but I still don't think islands will ever be a suitable map for regular matches. The bridges do help the problem but archers can still easily deny anyone from trying to cross it with punch 2. A good example of this is your bridges connecting to flag island, they both go to the same spot and archer would be extremely good there. You might also want to make a sea floor, as elf can instakill without it. The lily pads can also be easily defended with any range class, because of how unpredictable your movement has to be, and the only other option is take a bridge that is so far away from where you need to be.

    One thing I think could help is make some form of way to block arrows on the lily pad paths, idk like willow trees (totally tropical) Another thing is make more bridges (maybe not as big as the main ones) but just something so the archer on the other team doesn't know "he went on this bridge, let me just aim right here because that's the only place he can go from that bridge" Make it more than just point A to point B. If you actually wanted to make that "abstract glass structure" an iceberg, there is a huge space of water there so like put ice around it or something!?1/11?!/ The main focus I see for improving the map is making it easier to get from place to place. Any map that feels like the map is fighting against you, even without players, is a bad sign. I recognize you have many options to take to get around the map, but how many are actually viable. oh and sorry for being negative, it's just easier to point out flaws than say "yes good 1+"

    Sorry, but the amount of water (even with the lillypads) doesn't make me think that this is fit for rotation. A simple few well placed turrets could completely seal any route (lillipads or bridge) to the enemy side.

    If you were to add the sea floor skarm had mentioned you could restrict them.

    mageeeeeeee man. cuz of the fact the bridges are pretty thin and there is so much water mage is going to absolutely dominated this map

    we gave this our best shot, islands is a pretty ****ty map. i expected this (not just to matt, to every1)
