(@Gehenna_Beam totally stole your title xP)

So, I've wanted to start training as offense lately as a part of my attempt to be an all-round player, but I have a major shortcoming: I kinda suck at offense :grinning:

Any tips & tricks that'd help me out? Even the most basic of your knowledge will probably be more than I currently know. Also, doesn't really matter what class you'd like to give your expertise with: all of them, soldier, elf, ninja, chemist, medic, whatever (though I think the rest comes down to simple capping strategies since those are the only classes with special capping abilities).

Don't worry, no need to give me fashionista tactics, I already know how to make distractingly dazzling fireworks. c:

Offensive troubles eh? Hmm sounds like you need a manliness boost. I recommend Viagra. My girlfriend says it's turned me into a whole new man if y'know what I mean :^)

First off, whenever I cap, I never restrict myself to a certain class as this always depends on map and defense. On opposites collide for example, you don't want to go soldier, but as pyro is pretty op in that flagroom, try out medic.

You usually won't be too well off when planning a capping route as you want to react individually to recovery and however you're pushed around in a flagroom.

Few tips for soldier: try to keep an eye out for recovery ninjas and when you see they pearl to you, drop down or climb up, anyway, get away. Avoid assassins as you will end up dying if you don't (you have to un-block to climb up more than once, and also apart from that assa's are just fking annoying). Don't bother fighting anything on your way.

Few tips for medic: kill ninjas and assassins, ignore the rest. You can pummel assassins with your webs. You can web everything else (pyro, heavy, whatever). Don't be too sure about not using steaks because of your regen as it makes you way more vulnerable to ninjas if you have e. g. only two hearts, or half your lives. Again, try to see when there's a ninja near you or not.

Few tips for heavy: two options: kill a whole flagroom for others to steal or try to only run. If you're buffed and get out of the flagroom with two steaks, it's usually a cap (well, except for assassins).

    Few tips for ninja: I can't ghost myself xd. Prema is usually enough and better in that sense that you can see when a pyro is distracted or not. Timing is better o;

Few tips for varying classes: alternate whatever you're doing (where you go in, which classes you use, where you go out, if you try to steal or just kill def) so a defense can't be as prepared for you.

Grand Master Brawl Bot has sent me to help you out. Here are a couple tips
1: Every map has its "preferred class"
Blackout definetly is easy to cap with soldier and Ninja. Maps with indoor flag rooms prefer ninja or medics.
2: Avoid commonly used sponges. If a sponge is right next to the spawn of the opposing team, don't use it. Assassins can easily get you
3: Avoid fights while traving across the map. Use underground tunnels or use the Trees as cover. Unnecessary fights drain your resources and weaken you to the point that you'll die to any decent player in defense.
4: Watch for the Pro Defense players. Wolfgang, Owly, Sibs, Elomon, Firepixel, Winter, that awesome and handsome dude called Monstercat something...ect. All know what they're doing. Which leads to #5
5: Work as a team. If every offensive player rushes at the same time to get the flag, it's not gonna work. Already got a cap? How about you help the other person get it. Distract the pyro, kill the assassin, snipe the flag room.
6: Use Not commonly used routes. It throws off the recovery team
7: And finally... Never walk into spawn with the flag. Just...don't, ok?

If by offense you mean capping, one of the most efficient ways of getting the flag and escaping is to take advantage of others.

Wait for one of your own teammate to go in, if they die immediately wait a bit longer. Depending on the situation, the defense may focus on the player so much that you can sneak in a steal and get out rather unharmed or your teammate actually gets the flag and almost all of the defense goes out to recover. I dont play offense too much, but as a Soldier its in your best interest to use wall climbing to your maximum potential, never go in enclosed areas. Try and mix up your movement when climbing too, if you constantly climb everything on the way then you can become easily predictable. Try half climbing certain areas or just sprinting for brief periods of time to make it harder on anybody trying to trail you.

Offense isnt solely focused on capping either, harassing defense or supporting other cappers goes a long way.

If there is a pyro try and sneak up when they arent looking and start hitting them while going towards the flag.

It is useful to bind F5 to like "r" or something so you can look behind yourself when you have the flag easily.

Is it that hard to keep the middle finger on "w" and reach your index finger up to F5? I know it'd be dependent on hand size and keyboard layout but I don't have any problems with reaching F5 while running.

im generally the same as you in the sense that i have no idea what i'm doing on offense. i just rely on other people to go in and cause a distraction and i steal in the meantime. sometimes requires a bit of luck but you can often coordinate something easily enough. once im out i just run and avoid things tbh

My strategy is to let someone else run in, get out and die. After that, there's likely less defense to deal with me.

If you're ninja capping you need to wait until not very many people are looking at the flag as you have increased pick up time and any knockback you take will knock you out of the banner hitbox.

As chemist I poison the pyro through walls and then hit them with some slowness and dmg as I walk in. If brawl isn't lagging then the assassins are often an easy kill, I generally don't block but get a few hits first, as most assassins fake nowadays. Once I'm out, its a matter of killing ninjas, looking in single f5 (or tab for me) for aerials and dodging arrows.

Well for me it is, I tend to panic when I have the flag and often press the wrong button like e or something...

atleast as elf, you aren't going to be able to survive in the flagrrom very long. try to lose as little steak as possible, and then once you get into the flagroom, you want to be in there for as little time as possible. you can spend as much time as you want around the flagrrom, and sometimes it works better to try and draw people out one by one until it is manageable to steal.

    Funny joke.

Anyways, if you want to be more offensive, I recommend not caring about the opinions or feelings of others and taking up a cynical yet brutally honest worldview.
    Works for me.

attack with a fleet of soldiers, if the soldiers have recently conquered a belltower they are more confident that they can win
