CTF Holiday Update

    The mage nerf was actually ineffective (I already tried it) but is the beginning of bad things to come (nerds not reworks) and was more of an engineer buff, as mage's range is less than engineers so an engi in turret range is safe from mages and the turret can't be frozen by snowballs anymore.

    So, after extensively using all three of the reworks here are my thoughts.

    Chemist: relatively the same, potspam removed, now needs support to cap on larger maps.

    Soldier: XP bar regen is pretty fast, so the change only really effects soldiers who are trying to scale stuff like the wall on beaver creek. Wall spam removed which is nice as well.

    Pyro: Created some interesting counterplay, especially if there's an assassin on defense. When you have frenzy up its not much of a change compared to the instakills, so I think what will separate good and mediocre pyros is decision making based around when to use frenzy.

    Overall, I'm enjoying the update. Thank you and happy new years.

    I know I'm kind of biased, but on most maps a ninja's route is really easy to camp. On top of this, it takes one vigilant defender to stop that ninja from stealing.

    These seem pretty fair, but only time will tell if they are balanced or not. Time to do some tests.

    What's the radius on entering Frenzy?
    And if a target was on fire and you're in Frenzy does the damage stack to 10.5?

    I've played with Pyro a bit and it's very balanced now. You just need to adapt your playing style which is hard for some people who have mained Pyro before.

    Get ready for the rant of doom. I understand people wanted to change the spammy classes ( wallspam, bowspam, flintspam potspam) but this is silly. I get you all worked really hard on this new update , but lets look at matches! Uh no point ! The new update just wont work with matches, soldiers can just run away. Medics will just tank the pyros not to mention Assassin and Heavy. Insta kills are needed in CTF im sorry children but they are. Matches are ruined ( arc will say this as many times as she wants >:L). Also its not called CTF its called Kit Brawl ( go look at kit brawls pyro and our new and "improved" pyro).

    But you see in matches pyro in now useless, Soldiers can just walk in and out of the flag and get caps. You can also tank the pyros with a Medic! Since the fire can't do anything. I would like the classes to be what they were before. Killing a spammy soldier was always fun.

    There's actually an interesting mechanic that good defenses will be able to abuse in matches. Block to avoid assassin instakill, die to the pyro, steak to avoid dying to the pyro, die to the assassin instakill. Also, using frenzy like I previously stated will separate the good from the mediocre, it's all about timing and decision making now. Counterplay is good.

    Let's face it, this game will take more skill and be more fun without instant kills that require little to no effort to pull off. Maybe, this calls for a meta change where the Pyros are actually trying to prevent people from capping rather then camping it out in the flag room.

    The current soldier can just about climb the middle structure in Blackout/Whiteout. I think that's fine.

    Did you really just make a joke about updates not happening? On a thread for updates..?

    The reworks caused some bugs when pushed live that were not there in testing. They'll be fixed soon. c:

    Good one. Let's just not rework anything and see how the community likes that.

    I can't see ninja being reworked soon - it is very low priority. Definitely reworks happening for dwarf and necro, and possibly even small changes with engineer, but I'm not sure just yet. ^-^

    l0l wtf are you talking about. Soldiers could always just walk out and get caps. and yur forgetting pyro isn't the only defense in a match. You could always tank pyros with medic, so idk wtf yur complaning about, and fire can't do anything? Have you actually played with/against the new pyro?

    The thing is pyro was the core of any defense which was the problem, people are complaining now that they can't solo a defense against 5 people in a match which is exactly why it got reworked. You(not obi the pps complaing) might not like that you are not playing arguably the most op class anymore and you are just gonna have to deal with being in (better) balance with the rest of the game. (except archer >;( ) Pyro was in a ridiculous state where in matches we could just have Quarrelt solo defense as pyro for a few minutes in a few of our matches to have everyone else go offense and get a cap.

    And on chemist they should have nerfed the health or damage of chemist limiting it to either offense or defense but instead they nerfed both now it's b4d at everything and useless imo. I like the soldier and the pyro though

    Please. I can't stand seeing 20 people being teleported to my flag room in a minute while the engi runs around their autofiring turret spamming their regen stand.

    Anyway, my final thoughts on the reworks/tweaks after playing everything a good amount:

    Pyro:
    Honestly it's mainly the pyro mains that are complaining about it, from what I've seen. Pyro is still incredibly powerful and effective on defense. Hell, I even did a pretty good job defending with it on goddamn beaver creek. It's not useless people.

    Here's what I like about it: It's survivable. Yes, you basically have to spam your health, but you can still survive and possibly kill the pyro as heavy or cheeeemmm. . . I'll get back to you on that. Basically almost any class has a chance to survive. The frenzy is a nice reward for getting those hits on people and really makes it a better class than it would be otherwise. Defend enough and the next wave of offense will have a tough time getting through.

    What I don't like: This makes elf capping veeeeeerrrryyyy OP now. More than it was tbh. Now that the pyro can only put down 1 FnS per like 2 seconds or so, the best chance a pyro has against an elf is the bow or frenzy, which one of them will be blocked by the elf, and the other requires a certain situation to be effective.

    Soldier:
    Eh. I'm fine with this one. I like it. It gives the ninjas a better chance to recover, and even other classes a better chance to recover because it can't constantly fly up and down walls, making it incredibly difficult to get a hit on them.

    Chemist:
    This is the one I'm iffy about. I agree it needed a nerf, but I think this could have been done better like I've previously gone a bit into.

    What I like: Potspam is gone. No more throwing immense amounts of damage to keep people away from you, no more annoying randies coming up behind you while you're pvping and killing you in two seconds with 10 damage pots. Also: the nerfed health pool. That's something chemist gravely needed. The tanking ability was awfully OP.

    What I don't like: The way you nerfed the health pool. The health II is not enough for this kind of PVP. Heavies, medics, Ninjas will completely destroy chemists, sharp 4 and all. Why? Because they'll be too busy throwing all of there measly health II potions to be able to turn around and kill them. Same with Pyro. Chemist just doesn't stand a chance. You can last a bit, but the health just doesnt heal you enough to last long. You're too busy throwing pots to look up and get some shots back at them.
    Another thing: The archer-chemist counter needs to be nerfed also. Not a great amount, but it should not be 1 fully charged shot does 9 hearts. For one, with the new nerf that will take up almost have of your potions, like 3-4. Two, it's just not logical. After that one shot, all the chemist has to do is fall, what, 4-5 blocks? Boom, dead. It really isn't necessary with the nerf.

    What I suggest: Make it health III or something with less potions. Kind of like, oh idk, steak? What's the use of having all those potions if you simply cannot heal fast enough to stay alive?

    Mage:
    Really not happy with this. If you're going to change this class, scrap the whole thing and start new. I don't see any other way to do it. I played this class for 10 minutes and didn't really notice any difference. Still OP af, still kills just about everything that doesn't have speed III, still allows @chikincows to spawn kill me in matches.


    The Overall Rework:
    Eh. I like it overall. There's some stuff I think needs to be changed and tweaked, but hopefully you'll get to that and listen to the community.

    HOWEVER. However, I think after you make all the tweaks to the classes over the next few days or whatever, focus on the lag. That probably should have been the #1 priority tbh. Can't play the game with all these new reworks if we're getting 20% game speed.

    Using maximum climbing height each time you right click, you can get a little less than halfway up the tower on Clocktower.
    It just means you can't spam it, because it screws over your efficiency.
    And yeah, it received "a little nerf." Actually, it was a very little nerf. Compared to the other two, hardly anything changed at all.

    Enough with the rants.
    Besides the fact that Instant Health II heals less than steak (honestly the only thing I have a problem with), can we take a moment to think about how basically all of this is an indirect Ninja buff?
    Chemist no longer can even stand up to it because of its healthpool change. Burst damage can beat that easily.
    Pyro's true damage matters very little to a class with no armor.
    Soldier can't spam, so recovery should be easier.
    Damage spell can no longer two hit kill an invisible Ninja.
    Now we'll have to nerf Ninja...
