CTF is a pretty complicated gamemode if you don't know anything about it. Here's a quick overview with a few tips and tricks mixed in.

    The Basic Game:

If you know the basics such as what capturing and defending are, read over this. Most forum goers will already know this section.

    Offense:

Capture the flag is won by capturing the other teams flag (Go figure) enough times to win. Depending on the map, this can either be 5 captures or 3 captures.

But whats a capture? A capture is when you steal the enemies flag and bring it back to your own. The enemy flag is a banner of the opposite color of the team you are on. To take it, run up to it and you will pick it up. All you have to do from there is take it back to your flag and rub up against your flag.

A common mistake is believing that to capture, you must throw the enemy flag at your flag. This will do nothing, and dropping it will make it very easy for the other team to recover their flag (Recoveries will be discussed in the defense section). This myth is not true. To capture you must go up against your flag with the enemy flag in your possession.

Another common mistake is not knowing that you cannot capture when the enemy has your flag. If the enemy has your flag, the banner where your flag would be becomes white. In other words, you cannot capture if your flag is white.

The last mistake made for capturing is that going into your spawn will protect you. While going into spawn normally will heal you, if you have the enemy flag and walk into spawn you will die and the flag will be replaced. Do not do this.

    Defense:

Defending is rather easy. Simply kill anyone who comes into your base trying to steal your flag. If someone DOES get a hold of your flag, try to kill them. If you do manage to kill them and they have your flag, the flag will drop where you died. Simply run over it as if you are picking up a dropped item and you will recover the flag.

    Classes:

Knowing how the classes work is vital for gameplay.

Medic: Heal players on your team by hitting them. Throw cobwebs with your snowball. Right click steak to get 4 hearts back per steak. You have regeneration and respiration. This class has full golden armor and a golden sword.

Heavy: Very simple class. Right click steak to get 4 hearts back per steak. This class has full diamond armor and a diamond sword.

Soldier: Right click a block to fly up a few blocks. This is very useful when capturing. Has 4 steak. This class has full iron armor and an iron sword.

Archer: Shoot your enemies from far away to instantly kill them! Full chainmail armor and a stone sword, along with a bow.

Engineer: Has a turret, teleporter to teleport teammates, cake to eat for being healed, and a pickaxe. Stay away from their turrets. This class has iron boots and helmet, along with leather tunic and pants. It has 4 steak.

Necro: Golden chestplate and iron everything else, this class places down a spawner that spawns zombies that will fight the enemy.

Assassin: No armor except golden boots, this class has 3 regenerating sugar to speed them up briefly and one regenerating redstone which, when right clicked, gives the assassin the power to instantly kill anyone who isn't blocking. On the flip side, this class has no steak and can be instantly killed when they have the instantkill mode on (Assassinate).

Ninja: This class has no armor. It has eternal speed 2, an enderpearl that comes back, 10 eggs that distort the enemy when thrown, and a very sharp sword. But what makes this class special is that it can go invisible with its redstone powder. Don't worry though, the powder runs out pretty quick, and the ninja can still be hit by most projectiles when invisible.

Chemist: This class has leather boots and helmet and golden everything else. Basically, it has a ton of potions from healing for the chemist and its teammates to poison potions to speed and strength potions. They have a LOT of health with the health and regeneration potions.

Dwarf: Its not too common to see a dwarf these days, but also not very rare either. The dwarf class has three steak. It has full diamond armor except for chain boots and helmet. By crouching, the dwarf class can slowly level up. As its level gets higher, the dwarf receives rewards such as fire aspect on their sword and sharpness.

Pyro: This class has full leather armor. It has a diamond axe, flint and steel, and a fire/explosive bow. The bow only shoots fire when pulled back all the way. It received a rework recently, but basically the goal of pyro is to light enemies on fire to deal extra damage with your axe. If you're on fire, the pyro will do a lot of damage to you.

"rub up against your flag" lmao :stuck_out_tongue:

    1. Pyro does 3.5 hearts when the player is on fire and 7 hearts of true damage when in frenzy mode.

If you aren't a new player then you shouldn't be reading it anyways. Yeah, I know this post looks stupid from a regular player's point of view, but I tried to "dumb it down" for new players. This is just for players who have hardly played at all.

"and the ninja can still be hit when its invisible"
Half-true, Ninja is actually invulnerable to melee attacks whilst its invis, and can only be damaged by ranged attacks (arrows, snowballs, eggs, etc.).
