Hey there ladies, gentleman, and those who don't fit in the gender binary!
It’s kind of awkward talking about being LGBT+ around your straight/cis friends since they have no idea what we’re talking about, y’know? I’m making this squad in hopes of bringing the LGBT community within the CTF community closer together! We’ll have more people to talk to that a) understand b) have similar interests c) might even help you learn more about your own identity and d) hear about more tv shows/movies/books etc. you might enjoy! Plus you get to play CTF matches of course.
The LGBT+ Squad will be a safe & 100% accepting place for everyone who belongs in this community and are maybe looking for more friends

    • Please do not apply as an ally. This is a squad for the LGBT community and while allies are important you are not part of it.
    • If you want to join the squad but are worried about being public feel free to message me privately!
    • Basically all you have to do is be accepting of how everyone identifies!
    • Whatever is said in the squad chats, stays in the squad chats.
    • Never out a closeted person in the squad.
    • That's pretty much it

tbh, this is kinda stupid, inb4 a "straight squad" gets made, you know you don't have to make a squad in a block game to make people "understand" you. Everyone is equal, why make a squad to make you feel special \ o.o /. Instead of putting these "2" kind of groups as you call them, what about making it just one group and make people understand that these aren't 2 different groups, both are human, so?

I think sometimes it's nice to know which other members of the community are LGBT and this is a simple way of doing that. There's not really any harm that can come from it. It's a thing that already happens irl so why not use it virtually?

well, you specifically make a distinction. The members of this squad are the ones who draw a line between LGBT and "straight" (most bs term in history imo) people. Now, I agree in real life there might be a need for this as there are still limits of e. g. gay marriage and other kinds of oppression, but on the internet, where people are usually more liberal and progressive, this is not an issue very often. Now, I don't mind people being open about their sexuality, discussing it in a group or whatever, but at the point where they form a clique excluding others, I'm not quite sure what to think of that - especially if not only in a small skype conversation not many people know about, but publicly on the forums.

Just like there isn't a latino squad, a muslim squad and a humanities squad, how can a LGBTQIA+ (best abbreviation in history) squad be? Minorities should be seamlessly integrated, not specifically excluded.

Before you get this wrong, I don't mind any of those kinds, if you want to read my two pence on the actual topic, go ahead:
Obviously, at the point where it's not a man and a woman having sexual contact (which is essentially what it boils down to as you could just be very good friends apart from that), the biological point of reproduction is kind of over.
But hey, we live in an overpopulated world, we're not all biblical fundamentalists which is nice and I personally believe we all have a kind of homosexual part in us it's really not my place to criticize you, contrarily - go ahead, if you're enjoying yourselves (or each other).

I hope I didn't commit any blunders, if I did I'm sorry and I love you all (lol)

I mean I think it's different because irl I know alot of latinos and muslims and all those people but if I make any sort of implication that I'm gay then people start acting weird... it's just nice because in this we know we won't be discriminated against because of or sexuality and as mentioned before, it's a good way to get to know other people in the LGBT+ community who also have an interest in CTF, thats just more things in common you have with them ^-^

Look this is the only post I'll make to respond to any discourse that shows up on this thread unless someone asks me to do otherwise. In case my original thread and Squad description somehow wasn't clear enough for you I'll tell you again exactly why I made this squad. Most, if not all, of us in the LGBT community are terrified of being LGBT. We spend so much of our lives denying it or hating ourselves for it and we will always be scared of what will happen when you have to tell someone new. Personally I haven't told a soul offline that I'm gay/asexual. It kills me, honest to god kills me, to hide a HUGE part of who I am. To constantly monitor everything I say, do, act, wear, watch on tv, read, etc. The only place I don't have to do this? Here. Online with my friends. And not everyone has friends they can do this with. (And hey even the friends I do have here, great as they are, don't understand. They don't relate. I can't really talk to them. And everyday I do talk to them I risk sounding like a "*****" for complaining or I risk being "too gay" and annoying them.) This squad isn't about "separating" us from people outside the community- it's only about bringing our own community closer. It's about finding a bit of peace in a larger community that still uses gay, queer, f*g as insults. Why would that be a bad thing? I think Latino/Muslin squads etc would be a great idea too if someone wanted to start one! Your whole argument reminds me an awful lot of "Why do you need a pride parade? Where's our straight parade?" Doesn't that just sound ridiculous?

I'm not saying "where's our parade", I'm asking "why have any parade at all if you can just have a party".
The rule I quoted gave me the impression you were indeed trying to create a certain difference.

This might suprise you but in spite of my name I don't have any issues with LGBT people. You are who you are and I don't mind that one bit ^_^

However, something about this squad just irks me and a lot of it has to do with this quote:
I disagree. To sort of reiterate @Plautius, this squad is very much about creating a separate enclave from the rest of the "straight" community, although I suspect that was unintentional.

As such, I do not think this brings the community closer together. You'll notice that CTF doesn't have a Christian squad. CTF doesn't have a Democrats, or lord forbid a Republicans squad. Or a team for that matter. As you've probably noticed teams and squads are in short, apolitical, non racial, and ignore gender typing. That is a good thing and they should stay that way.

Why do I say that? Because I think squads and teams shouldn't have anything to do with race, religion, sexual orientation, or political ideologies or whatever. They are teams, not political super PACs or lobbying organizations. I think this because if everyone started to create teams and squads based on all of things I listed above it just creates unnecessary divisions as well as cliques in the community.

@Plautius put it really well when he said that "why have any parade at all if you can just have a party".
What reason is there to be divvying up the community into secular groups by creating religiously, racially, sexually, or politically charged squads/teams when we could just admit that we are all different, accept that, and move on with our lives? People are aware of LGBT issues, and I really have no problem with people forming a squad that is openly friendly to LGBT people since some of the public discrimination I have witnessed and seen in the news has been sickening.

Nevertheless, this is a Minecraft game. Let's just have fun with it and check our biases, our religious identities, our race, and our politics at the door.

    lol.
I guess I will put my 2 cents in, Although I am a strait male I can't see why people are getting the wrong idea about an LGBT+ Squad. This is a squad where people of a minority, which often gets outcast in the real world, can express their ideas and opinions in a safe place(with other people of the same community), without the feeling of being persecuted or how ash said it being annoying or seen as b*tchy. Making a strait squad would be completely different seeing that I could go to school, online and start talking to the some guy and chances are he will be strait and noone within a 5 mile radius will have a problem with us having a conversation expressing strait ideas because it's the norm and what people are used to, whereas if we weren't strait people may give us weird looks, treat us differently or in some cases take action against it.

Don't see this squad as "Drawing a line between LGBT+ and "strait" people" but see it as a safe place for a certain group of people to talk about what they wouldn't be able to outside the Squad/Game.

exactly. that's the party, not the parade. The party is the safe place to talk, the parade is the place where you get political.

Yay!! \^-^/ this was finally made! :cat:!! Clan too op for me! \^-^/
I personally agree with mh and Ash about the creation of the squad, I do not feel that this is creating a significant impact in separating the CTF community /,\, just brought people who have the same views and same feelings that others may not have. In the end, its just bringing people together in a friendly and peaceful way  \^-^/
