Why Engineer is a Bad Class

    1. Autofiring turret

    2. Teleporter that teleports 20 people (a whole team) to your flag room in a minute

    3. Autofiring turret

    4. Teleporter that teleports whole teams to your flag room in a very short amount of time

    5. Spammable regen stand

    6. Autofiring turret

    7. Engineers can run around their turrets spamming their cake while the 20 people being teleported in a minute destroy you

    8. Did I mention the autofiring turret and teleporter?

    Honestly this class has gotten so many complaints in game and some on forums that I don't know why nothing has been done to at least try and fix it.

    honestly, i agree, but it does what it ssuppose to do. maybe a little too well, but the reason it hasnt been nerfed again yet is cause its been nerfed a lot and isnt as op as it was(anyone remember waterfalls and engie blocking up entrances MAKING it impossible to get the flag?

    It's been nerfed a lot yet it's still considered OP and annoying, and is still one of the most hated classes of ctf, if not THE.

    I belive it's tied with mage and archer for most hated. All three have been described as cancer in game

    Yes let's ask some of the 20+ random players on my team who rarely know what they're even doing to take out the engi + the entire other team. The few regulars are either frantically defending from the entire other team or capturing.

    As one who hates Engineer with a passion, I'd have to disagree with the fact that it takes a huge team to take out Engineers. The amount of people needed to take out an engineer is far less than before to say the least, and most engineers that are problematic aren't a result of the class itself but the team that it brings along with it. By that point, a team trying to break a team effort should be natural. I've not had much issue dealing with lone engineers, and 2 engineers is plausible to handle too as long as they are dealt with Swiftly.

    I still hate Engineer though.

    As much as I hate to say it, engineer has a place in ctf. As broken as the class may or may not be, the concept of engineer is- whilst not necessary- certainly a plausible and playable aspect of the game.


    With this in mind, engineer is a s****y class that should never have been invented.

    Excuse me, are you dissing engineer?

    As a professional freeday engineer main, I am startled by your lack of knowledge. To play engineer effectively, you need to be extremely intellectual and strategic, and you must know all the ins and outs of every map. You must also know how to effectively counter classes that try to attack your engi nest.

    With the nerf that hit engi a while ago, the most popular engi tactic was made obsolete: AFKing. Now, the amount of effective, objectively playing engineers are limited to a select, skilful few.

    An engineer turreNt is useless if you don't know the map well. It needs to be placed in a key location so that teammates would want to teleport in, with enough enemies walking through that your turreNt affects the enemy offence significantly. Of course, I don't expect every new player to know how to find the ideal engi nest spot, as it requires finding the middle of a map, and counting other players.

    Another thing you have to be mindful of is headshots. Archers will always try to shoot you, and if you are stationary or too close to your turreNt, you will get headshotted and lose your hard-earned 23 killstreak. You need to develop strategies to counter this cheap insta-kill method of killing you, such as pressing "W", "A", "S" or "D" in a random order to counter the spray-n-pray, or hiding behind an object.

    You also have to be mindful of your turreNt's health and wellbeing. Engineer was nerfed really hard last update, and now you have to make sure you repair your turreNt. You can no longer hide and let your turreNt do all the work: you must now actively pop out of your hiding spot for all of two seconds and repair the turreNt. This leaves you horrifyingly vulnerable to enemy attackers, which brings me to my next point.

    Enemies will always target your engi nest: most notably the noob instakill classes that require no skill. You must learn to effectively counter these enemies to ensure you survive. If an assassin is running at you, you must master the tactic of running backwards and blocking with your sword if they get too close. However, blocking also disables your turreNt: another massive disadvantage to the already easily-counterable class. Pyros can also break your turreNt with their axe or instakill you, so you must be able to spamclick your cake in order to survive the pyro fire, and have the patience to wait for someone else to teleport in to your engi nest as cannon fodder while you repair/rebuild your turreNt.

    Occasionally, other classes will come in and try to attack you. If you have teammates around, it is important that you hide behind them and let them die before you do, or run around and spam click your cake while your turreNt deals big damage. You need to be very skilled, as engineer is a weak PVP class that can only hit an enemy 7-10 blocks back in a couple of hits with its pickaxe.

    Finally, you must master the art of alternating between manual and automatic control. True master engineers use their manual control once in a while to demonstrate their dead-centre aim, but know to switch back to the automatic as soon as an enemy enters 1000 blocks of their turreNt.

    All in all, you can see the sheer amount of skill and game theory that goes into playing engineer. Please consider these before making any further rash comments about the most skilled class in CTF.

    Engi was nerfed more than enough, really. Stop complaining, ctf always worked out fine
    Since most of it is team benefit, and both teams could have some, it doesn't make it unfair no matter how strong it is.
    If theres more engis on the other team, then they have the advantage. But thats the same with other donor classes

    All this effort for making classes balanced is just ruining the fun. It's not like any class is impossible to play, and there will always be some unfair imbalance whether it's team members, class choices, map advantage, etc.

    Personally I don't have that much trouble killing an engineer, but whenever I play as engineer I get like a 25ks. Idk, use a buffed heavy or a frenzy mode pyro to kill the engineer/use a necro to destroy the turret then kill him with another class.

    Look I'm not all that active here anymore, but before this is was ninja, pyro and chem. And before THAT there were complaints. There will never be a perfect balance, certain classes will always be op and others will always be weak. It isn't really possible to have the amount of classes we do with the themes we do and still have everything be equal. If they were to make the turret not autofire (u were complaining about that a lot) it would be just like a bow that cant get headshots and is harder to aim. If they were to make the cooldown on the teleporters higher no one would use them. At least they are 1 way, they used to be 2 way. If they were to remove the cake then combined with the other suggested nerfs, it would be useless...

    I understand where people come from when they say they hate engineers. I used to play it in mcpvp because, quite honestly, I wasn't good at the other classes besides Archer. However, the fun was short lived. It got boring doing nothing and I eventually moved away from it. I believe now, after the nerf, that engineer is still the same boring, cheap class. Don't get me wrong, it's great for getting a lot of kills. It isn't, however, fulfilling. I don't get the same buzz from setting up a turret that I do from keeping my teamates alive as medic, or from protecting flag as assassin. It is still a class and requires a certain degree of skill, but at the same time it does seem a little lack luster. Assassin can kill you, oyros can kill you, archers will absolutely kill you, even other engineers can kill you.

    Tl:dr This is why I believe the class is fine as it is. It's boring to play, so it isn't for the players that want to be actively involved in capturing or defending, but even if you do play it you can be rest assured that you won't last long if the enemy team knows what they're doing. So good luck out there engis, you're going to need it.

    Peoples complains against engineers are well founded and deserve to be. Clocktower is the map that pisses off anyone on freeday or in general because 3 engineers can keep out most of the people trying to kill it.

    I'm a dual Engi that's been playing for way too long for anyone's health.
    (Also a Medic for when I can't turret, as Medic was my first love)

    Most of anything I have to say has already been said here.
    Only thing I have to add is that there aren't only 3 classes being called cancer, just about every one (aside from maybe current Necro) has been called out by people.
    This is CTF. In Minecraft. Things will not work like TF2, nor will it ever achieve complete balance.
    Unless you want to start a train where every class gets thrown into the Necro ground, it accomplishes nothing as people will just complain about the remaining classes.
    Granted, considering the community's about the same as ever, they'd probably find something to complain about even if everything was useless.

    As for the satisfaction of it, that's down to the person.
    Myself, I have great fun from finding just the right spot that's allowed to place, then trying to find somewhere to be to not die.
    Granted, I've also played matches in some 1v1 games where the matchup became "try to win without making contact with the other player, as if you see them you will die", so I'm strange.
