Giving a real and nonsarcastic answer.
Dont go near enemy spawn and if an assassin gets too close go for the pvp, dont just spam damage spells, use fire, and freeze as well as lightning and healing, since flame slows them down with fire damage and ice freezes them long enough to heal and get lightning again as well. Dont go into the mob of people and dont go somewhere closed in if a groups chasing you, since most likely youll be cornered. Ninjas, other mages, and assassins are your main worry.

I prefer taking out archers whenever i can since theyll snipe me once they get the chance. Ninjas mostly can be predicted and screwed by flame, freeze then lightning and then a damage shot. Assassins if they get too close need to be dealt with in pvp since you gotta hit them when they use assassinate.

P.S. Mages are great defense supports due to freeze lightning and fire. Lightning people to keep them away from flag giving your team a better chance to kill them, and freeze any flag grabbers so recovery can catch up. flame people so a pyro can easily kill them. Mage is also good at recovery if they arent far away.
P.P.S. Prediction is a key to mage, if you can predict assassins/ninja/other mages then you should be able to kill them.

The first thing you do is to decide what type of mage you want to be (offensive, or defensive) Next, if you choose to be an offensive mage, make sure you click both your left button and right button so you know where your spells are going. Also use combos so people who dont know the definition of spell spamming dont call you spammers (although they will because you keep owning them) And the most important thing for a mage main to know and use is to retaliate against people who call you "spellspammers" because that is the most hideous term in CTF. I know that using your spell against the flagpole to kill ninja cappers is unskillful, blaming mage mains for "spellspamming," just because they are doing their job right, makes the argument funny. After all even Nohox made a thread about the most commonly underrated words in CTF. One of those words was spam. He said that spam is not a bad thing (except for pot spam, web spam) but the fact that people make up words like spell spam, sword spam and wall spam is kind of low. What can mages use if they are keep on being pressured to not use their damage spell,? I bet fist fights would help. Yeah no, its kind of annoying how people use these invalid terms to justify a lost cause. Damage spell is their main weapon of the mage so you have to use it the most, as well as other spells. Also a good mage always stays calm even in the most intense 1v1s or 9v1s in my case. You see if you see a really good mage main and you want to 1v1 them and show them that you are good, you go and try to start a 1v1 with them and all of the sudden you are in anxiety as to whether you will kill them or not, and you start breathing faster and heavier and you suddenly are so restless that you cant control the direction of your spells and the other mage kills you. Thats why its important to not give your self a heart attack and stay calm when you are a mage. Also try to not move side to side but in unperdictable patterns and always aim at them. tbh if its ninja burn lightning damage spam same with assassin but after one try of flame give up and save lightning for up close once they use dat assassinate
