So it seems evident that the majority of people are not a fan of the new Wave XI maps and reworks. Also, it is noticeable that people are not a fan of the older maps (Beaver Creek, Ship Battle, etc). From my point of view, all the maps that were in Wave XI were built by Mods and Builders. So my question this is. Why can't the experienced CTF-ers (or at least the community) choose the maps? This should be practiced for a couple of reasons.

    1. People can play maps they enjoy
    2. Less complaining going on (if there wasn't enough already)
    3. It gives other map builders a chance to express their creativity rather than wasting their time on staff choice
    4. Should not be that complicated to code the maps for people to try it out

Comment what you think on this idea.

    Thanks for reading

7vrth4, haven't heard any hate of most new maps yet and most aren't made by builders/mods

As mentioned previously, we will be most likely be changing things up for the next map wave. The specifics aren't decided yet since we have a few other more important things we need to figure out first - but it will be different. Things we may explore are more player involvement towards the end of the process, as well as the addition of live testing.

Once we figure it out, I'm sure you'll see a post from us in the map submissions thread.

well, what defines an experienced player? I also don't think it should be down to community vote cuz a lot of people are biased and will +1 maps that favour their main class.

Well there are a few ways to go about it. For example, we could have a community vote and a mod vote and compare the lists. Another way is we could create a pool of players who'd like to participate in voting and then the mods could selete people from that to vote, and we'd switch players every wave. If that would be considered too bias for people, we could leave it to a lottery for the pool.

So, there's a few different ways we can do it. If it doesn't work perfectly this next wave, we'll do something different for the one after etc etc...

I think it'd be best to test the maps twice:
    1. Staff test all new maps, and eliminate those with huge issues (or even fix those with issues that are easy to fix).
    2. Experienced CTFers (players with a rank or have 48 hours in-game time on CTF) are whitelisted onto a CTF match server, and are invited to play all the maps which staff haven't eliminated. Players can do /y and /n to vote for the maps they think will be good in the rotation, and can PM staff on the forums for any suggestions on maps they don't like, so builders or mods can fix small issues before the map wave.
This means the community generally get more of a say in upcoming maps, but the mods can make sure no dumb maps get through even if the community vote for them. Only experienced CTFers should be able to beta test the maps; unexperienced new players who probably don't even what half the classes do shouldn't be able to vote during the beta phase, as they don't really know what they're doing.

CTF staff are people who have been playing CTF a long time and have a lot of experience in the game. I get the impression from the orginal post that Duck views the CTF staff as though they don't know anything about the game. I respect their decisions, even if they haven't always been popular.

Besides, if the community is allowed to choose which maps go into the rotation, what's preventing it from becoming a popularity contest? Would the community be able to choose better maps to add than the CTF staff because of their so called more experience?

I said this before, but why don't we have a Beta server specifically for testing maps where stats don't count? TF2 has this, so why don't we?

@Shawn_ , there wouldn't be enough people to justify its own server. If anything, we'd rotate the maps on the match server.

Not all maps were build by builders and mods, but I agree, I think the map choice should be able to be picked by the community.

    Pay to test? Eula? Bro.

Maybe a map testing team with experienced ctfers and map makers and mods.
