Is it? I mean it has 5 instant health pots that are amplified to lvl 3, which can heal up to about 9 hearts from an average of 7.5 in which it heals twice as much than a steak would. But, it requires you to aim your potion to heal you which takes a little longer to react to. The instant dmg pots are not too bad except it knocks you back and deals up to 2 - 3 hearts of true damage, but cannot spam as much. Poison 2 for 6 seconds can deal an amazingly 5 hearts of true damage if thrown properly. Slowness for 5 seconds is questionable, but is very useful. Buffs are the main deal with chemist, 9:00 minutes for strength and speed and 6:45 minutes for fire resistance, which makes chemist deal around 4.5 to 7 hearts of damage, more than the heavy without buffs.

    Conclusion:
Does a half-tank with 9 steak with incredible damage sound fair? Just a question, I'm not hating on chemist, remember: it's the skill that matters.

    Numbered version:
    40% armor
4.5 - 7 hearts of damage (limited time)
    40+ pots (spam limit)
    x9 steak (requires aim)
    = fair?

The choice is yours. I'm neutral on chemist, I just wanna let you know my calculations on it.
    :grinning:

    Oh I forgot the regen!
Regen III for 15 seconds! I think that's 15 or 7.5 hearts of health times 5.

No because due to the armour, you can still die just as easily as a soldier say (armour/healing). 3.5 hearts from a ninja to chemist and 2 to a soldier. The thing that I rely on the most is regen though, it makes a half a heart regen straight away when damage is dealt but if the regen is needed it's way too up. Currently it's fine. Just op with a medic but medic needs a change anyway.

Chemist is OP in the right hands, but that doesn't mean it needs a nerf. Elf is OP in the right hands too, and that definitely doesn't need a nerf.

Chemist doesn't seem too OP to me, tho it might be if a player knows how to use it.

Chemist is not OP. It is a skill-in power-out class. It takes a lot of practice and skill to use it effectively but when you do, it's pretty powerful. Compare this to assassin's instant-kill. Low skill-to power ratio. It doesn't take a whole lot of skill to use it, so that is OP.

I get the idea that a lot of people think that because it can be op it is therefore always op. it is really hard to kill some of the best chemists but, obviously, they are the best and killing the best players of any class is hard, that's not just something that is exclusive to chemist

I must admit that lately chemists have not been an incredible challenge, although that might be cuz I use the cheapest tactics known to man. but yeah, chemist is fine

It's op in the right hands, but that's the same for every class. Ninja isn't exactly op, but when fighting brandino or sibs, ninja becomes a nightmare. Another example would be byzantine and heavy. Not an op class, but definetly op when he plays it. (By far, the most op combo is @pookeythekid and elf >_>)

All they need to do is un-nerf the wind element. I don't even know why they nerfed it, elf was the hardest class to play even before the nerf.

Responding to OP so I don't get too off topic here. Chemist is rather difficult to play, I tried for a little bit and got scared that my KDR went down by 2% (yes, I have also been contaminated by the stats disease to some degree). Interestingly enough because I play elf, I just got tired of dying all the time (two or three days seems like a long time sometimes) with not much to show for it. I do applaud very skilled chemists in a way, particularly those who are still dominant after the nerf.

Actually, as I've said before in the deep depths of a thread I don't really remember (pretty sure it was that one that was my shortest elf rant ever, actually), I've changed my opinion on the nerf. The fact is, wind element was *slightly* more powerful than it needed to be, but the nerf was also more powerful than it needed to be. What's also upsetting is that elf had--and still has--only its wind element ability to make it useful in the game. Yes, I complain about all this stuff while proposing no real solution (except for my pure element tweak I put in the ideas forum, that was good), but the truth is it's not an easy problem to solve. But still, it needs to be solved.

He is right! ANY class can be OP in the right hands, some classes have a fewer amount of hands they're OP in then others, but that's besides the point. I also find Chemists capping very easily, as their healing/regen pots are about just as annoying as mage's bottomless supply of healing (it takes forever to kill these classes if you're not a good counter class to them, then again, ANY class can be OP XD)

I think chemist is pretty OP. It simply has too many options, it can slow, poison, and damage it's opponents all from a distance, and then it has a speed advantage over them, as well as having a pretty good sword.

Just because a "good player is OP" doesn't mean the class is balanced as it is. Heck, currently classes like Mage are useless in the hands of a bad player, but that doesn't mean they're balanced.

I would like to say that that's just how the game should work: a player with enough skill should reap the rewards for his skills, but then there are also some harsh counters to the class he plays so that he does not run rampant through the battlefield killing endlessly without dying a few times. This is why I have such respect for the role of archer (but not its actual power); since pretty much any class* can be absolutely dominant if used correctly and skillfully--excluding elf, dwarf, and necro--archer serves as a hard counter to the skillful players who need at least one thing to prevent them from ruining the game.

    * In the case of ninja, I would say it's a far more functional "glass cannon" than assassin, in that it's usually in 3-4 hits but players who can achieve massive combos with the high-damage are rewarded with a good kill. That said, it still loses health quickly and regenerates slowly, so it could also be an exception to the classes which can run around killing everyone.
