To me, mage is kind of a longer-ranged chemist when it comes to learning the controls.

Elf is delicate and more difficult to learn the nuances of. I don't think many people want to invest the time the time it takes to get good with elf because the time investment isn't always practical.

 

This comes down to opinion. One isn't better than the other. Unless you're talking about one vs. the other in combat, then it's mage. Mage totally kicks elf's butt.

 

This entirely depends on skill level. Mages give up a ****ing difficult fight as elf, but using some good combos of elements you can kill them some-what quickly. If we were talking about overall usefulness, Mage definitely. But in the long run it's that players skill level.

I would argue that I have among the fastest pure element combos among all the elves who use pure element, which is basically only you and me, but I'd say it's rather rare to have the mere chance to kill a mage with a quick combo in a 1v1, mostly due to the way the damage spell will destroy an elf's health through the leather armor (which is literally twice as weak as mage's Prot II), making it impossible to get off the usually-necessary 3 shots for the kill before needing to steak. And let me remind you (or let you know in the first place), elf does not need three time-consuming full-powered shots for the pure element combo; the first arrow can be of any power, then the others should be full-power.

I feel like mage is getting better and better because everything is getting nerfed, but mage's kit specifically is staying the same. As far as elf goes, I think something should be done. The class seems extremely underwhelming, and the amount of time it takes to get good at the class could easily be put into a class that can do the same thing more effectively.
