Censor the name: 'Mao'

Seems fair, if Brawl has a censorship policy then it should apply to every name or no ones name at all

 

But Mao is a name of an anime character as well.

 

We might as well censor Stalin, Pinochet and Bush then.

I'm not exactly sure that this should be censored, most people use "Hitler" as an insult (examples aren't needed). But I've never really seen the word "Mao" used as an insult, but if people do start using it to be disrespectful I don't see a reason why it shouldn't be censored. As for now, I think we should let it be

Just as info from someone currently studying history in his free time, Hitler caused the deaths of approx. 55 million people.
Mostly Russian, Ukrainian, and Polish civilians and soldiers, lots of Germans, lots of Jews, Sinti, and Roma.

You can tell this isn't really funny, and he's serious. Unless he's joking though, in which case you are sick Vincz.

 

According to @jacobkolstad, other names of tyrants such as Castro/Mussolini/Stalin etc. should be censored too. I'd like to see this name being censored, as we mustn't trifle with his crimes which are horrible.

Hitler shouldn't even be censored, it's not a swear word, it has little meaning to 99% of Brawl players.

 

Totally agree, Brawl should do the half-work.

 

This post is so dumb, Hitler should not be censored in the first place, should we censor all Serial killers names too? HELL NO!

For my serious reply;

It's not like people are gonna lose their **** when somebody calls them Hitler or Mao
And if you do take personal offense to it, don't cry over it. Just don't reply as that'll make the person who said it in the first place continue.

You don't see people running around spamming "HITLER" and "MAO".
Why censor it when there has never been a huge issue with it in the first place?

I understand what these people did, how horrible it was, etc. Hell, I wrote a 5 page research paper on Stalin's Reign of Terror. It was not fun. Lots of gruesome bits.

My point is, yeah, I understand they're unspeakably evil, that doesn't mean we should go and censor them when nobody really uses it enough as an insult to justify the censor.

 

I don't know of I agree. Adolf Hitler was probably censored because he's commonly used in racist slurls, insults etc. ...kind of similar why "gay" is consored. (Definetly not saying it's not alright to be homosexual).

Mao and many others aren't as known and if they're censored it'll raise the question: What's wrong with this word. Have you ever seen someone refer to Mao, when telling an inappropriate joke? Personally I have not.

Finding out about, for example, Mao will hopefully happen at an mature age anyway.


Censoring other quote bad people with Hitler is like censoring black death and ebola, because cancer is consored. (Same reason as Hitler: insults etc).

how about not censoring names of people in history.
if it's meant to protect kids from hearing these names, it's not going to help anything since they learn this stuff in school.
