Voting for Next Maps

    As just a thought I came up with:
    What if we let CTF players choose what maps to play next? It would take 4 maps randomly from the current rotation and 1 "random" option and offer them up to play next. The server would then take the most popular vote and play it next.
    The map selection would be displayed with /vote, and players would input their choice with /vote # . The First map of the BO3 match would be a random map. Previous maps would be taken out of the vote.

    Such an example:

    Map 1: Opposites Collide
    /vote:
    1: Tanks
    2: Slate
    3: Standoff
    4: Xieroth Station
    5: Random

    Majority is /vote 5

    Map 2: Blackout (Randomly chosen)
    /vote:
    1: Clocktower
    2: Whiteout
    3: Standoff
    4: Lighthouse
    5: Random

    Majority is /vote 1

    Map 3: Clocktower
    /vote:
    Sorry, this is the last map of the match. Make it count!

    If the match ends after 2, the vote for the map is simply ignored.

    Voting would be displayed throughout setup, play, and post-war time, giving people plenty of time to choose.


    Pros:
    Helps Brawl keep tabs on liked maps and disliked maps
    People get some input on maps, making a slightly more pleased game
    Diversifies the map choice

    Cons:
    Group takeover of voting
    People that don't get their map become discouraged and disappointed.
    Map repetition due to popularity

    I don't much know about the logistics of implementing this, just giving an idea for a more "interactive" game.

    No because will be same map most of the time when it comes up or same few maps. -1

    I actually like this idea. Servers with Survival Games have things like this, where players have the ability to choose what map they want to play.
    Also remember that a group of 5 people is not going to dominate a 40-60 person server. That's why the server suggests maps at random so that players are limited to an extent; they choose from the pool provided.

    If you mean current map in the map they are currently playing, no, that's even worse. If it goes ship battle, every noob will vote for it and we will play it 3 times.

    But this makes it bad if its a map you want. I love Blackout/Whiteout, and when it finally shows up, I won't be able to play it because I can't vote for it to stay...

    Anyone remember survival games in Brawl? A map voting system was implemented in that gamemode and this one map called Turbulence was voted almost every single time. I don't want CTF to become a gamemode where only one map is played 24/7.

    As stated, this idea sounds nice, but it won't work due to it being the same maps over and over again. But, I think there is another system that would somewhat fix that issue (not perfectly of course). That system would be like Mario kart U online system, where each player picks a map from 4 or random, then the system randomly picks from those choices. So although the majority has a higher probability of their map being choosen, it isn't guarenteed.

    Having stated that, I really don't think the current system has any issues with it. It does get annoying when you finish a match on one server, join another, and play the same map again. However, it isn't that bothersome and doesn't need to be focused on right now (cmon, Necro still needs that buff).

    Well, this seems like reason to implement a sort of cooldown system, disallowing a map from being put back into the vote for ~4-6 matches on a single server. This still gives the popular maps their popularity, yet still allows for map diversity. Yes, popular maps will be voted for, yet they will be voted because people enjoy playing on them, and if they're overused, then they will get less attention and other maps will take the place. Plus, a large game gap of 2-3 hours is plenty of time for the cooldown to be effective and make a player happy to play the map again.

    I like it, +1. Before this, Brawl would need to add better servers so 40-60 players could play at a time, otherwise if its a 15 or 20 player server a small group of people could choose the next map which is unfair. Also, to stop the popular maps from being player over and over, Brawl should take the 5 or 7 most popular maps (most played in (?official?) matches) and decrease the chances of those maps being one of the choices.
