We are all familiar with class bans such as engineer necro and dwarf (although they are in the MMR, before that they were just referred to as Class Bans). I was lately thinking, what if teams agreed on banning a certain map? Quite the same concept as classes but instead it is based on banning maps.

A practical use is banning a team's strongest map or favourite map such as Blackout or Airlock.

    Procedure to banning
The procedure works something like this

Each team has 1 map to ban. The 3rd/Final ban is decided by agreement on banning a certain map.
In a nutshell similar system to picking maps

    Thoughts?

I get it, and I also understand the struggle of fighting teams that are really strong on a particular map. However, say one team was really good at Pavo's Academy and then every team kept banning it when they played them, they'd rarely get to play it anymore. People would be stuck picking maps they don't really like which isn't what we're about. I've thought about a more strict map decision process but wasn't ever too sure is was the right way to go.

There are plenty of maps on CTF. I have a number of favourites and I think so do many others. I doubt players like to play on only 1 map, because that is never the case.

Implementing this would mean a constant difference in maps between matches. Teams would have to stop relying on a single map which really isn't the case, multiple teams always pick different maps and don't stick to the same ones, so I really don't think it should be an issue. It could make the atmosphere much more interesting.

I get you are afraid it could turn into another 3 class perma ban because people are afraid they will become too op, but how about amending the original suggestion to this:

Each team has the option to ban one map. The map the team decides to ban cannot be banned in the team's next match, whether it be official or unofficial. The only exception is if the team has their next match within a couple of weeks (i.e>3 weeks)

And before you do say it takes a great effort to note what maps the team banned in their previous match, matches should be posted in the match section. That way people could track their last bans in matches. Not that difficult if you ask me.

I never understood why the staff were so scared of trying to implement new things. Even if they fail, they can be removed with ease I suppose. Better to have some change than no change in months.

Well, that last comment was certainly a little uncalled for. I never said it was too hard, I never said I was too scared, and never said the idea was bad. I said teams should generally be allowed to play what they want. If you were wondering, for the next tournament we were thinking about doing something like that before - at least do a different process. So yes, I do understand the reasons, all the pros and cons - and simply think that it isn't a policy we should add to our system.
